WU YEE CHILDRENS SERVICES Overview
Programs: Through a dynamic partnership with families, we seek to provide highquality childcare and support services early in the lives of childrenin the belief that education and health are lifelong gifts that empowerpeople to improve conditions for their families and communities.
Wu Yee's Child Development Centers provide children with a nurturingand safe environment where they are encouraged to express themselvesand learn through exploration at their own pace. Teachers provide thechildren with challenging activities and a culturally diversecurriculum emphasizing acceptance and tolerance. Teachers guidechildren in their learning by providing opportunities for socializationand problem solving as well as exploration and experimentation. In ournationally recognized intergenerational program at Generations,children develop relationships with the elders from On Lok providingthem with a unique learning experience.
The Child Development Program provides full-day, year-round services tochildren ages 0-5 and pregnant women through Early Head Start, HeadStart, and state subsidized child care and child development programs.These programs cater to low-income families, including families withchildren with disabilities. We also offer private preschool slots tohigher-income families with children between the ages of 3 and 5.Currently, our centers are located in the Tenderloin, Chinatown, andVisitacion Valley neighborhoods of San Francisco. Our Child DevelopmentProgram reflects the cultural, linguistic and ethnic diversity of ourcommunities.
The Child Development Program providescomprehensive services, integrating aspects of parent involvement,education, health, mental health, nutrition, and social services.Parents are involved in all aspects of the program and services areenriched by partnerships with other community agencies. Children areallowed to learn through exploration, with opportunities to engage inactivities and explore toys that are developmentally-appropriate.Parents and staff develop learning plans to address individualchildren's developmental goals.
• Our Head Start Home-based Programprovides comprehensive Head Start services through weekly home visits,working with child's parents, pregnant woman and family. The Home-BasedProgram Specialist and parent work together to promote the child'shealthy growth and development. Enrolled families participate in groupsocialization activities twice a month. The Home-Based program servespregnant women and children up to the age of three.
• Our Family Child Care Programprovides comprehensive child development and family support services toenrolled families in licensed family child care homes. The Early HeadStart Family Child Care Network includes licensed family child careproviders throughout San Francisco contracted to provide child careservices in their homes. An Early Head Start Family Child DevelopmentSpecialist works closely with families, serving as a support andresource.
• Our Center-based programoptions are full-day, full-year. Income-eligible families receive lowor no-cost services. Private slots are available in the Preschoolcenters.
