Mission: Theatre Action Project (TAP) is a team of professionally trained artists and educators that works in partnership with schools and communities to lead unique and engaging arts programs which allow young people to learn critical life skills, gain tools for creative expression and have successful experiences that build self-esteem and confidence. Our programs expose young people to critical social problems and offer opportunities for them to creatively think about how they can be a part of solutions to these problems. We teach healthy communication, encourage an appreciation for diversity and inspire people to have compassion for others. Some of the core social issues and life skills our programs address include: low self esteem, bullying, conflict resolution, dating violence, diversity, access to the arts and literacy.

Programs: Two of TAP's most popular interactive residencies are The Courage to Stand and Courage in Action. These 5 day residencies serve students in K-5 grade and explore issues of bullying and racial tension through contemporary and historical portrayals of oppression, courage, and what it takes to be an ally in the community. The Heroes/Los Heroes is another of our popular residencies serving K-2 students. TAP After School currently offers over 330 hours of programming each week through our innovative Artist in Residency program that places professional Teaching Artists at local elementary schools five days a week from the end of the school day until 6pm. Within this youth-for-youth theatre company, teenagers whose lives have been affected by domestic and dating violence come together to create compelling, interactive, peer-educational theatre. Drawing on their daily experiences as teens and what they have learned about relationship dynamics from SafePlace counselors, the Changing Lives youth create an original show each year. Using fun and interactive theatre techniques to facilitate audience participation and discussion, the teen performers lead peer and adult audiences to consider crucial questions such as: What is a healthy relationship? What are the warning signs that your relationship could be a dangerous one? What are the dangerous myths and misconceptions about relationships? How do we make sure that we are respected and loved the way we want to be?FREE performances by The Changing Lives Youth Theatre Company are available to area schools, community centers, youth conferences and other appropriate venues.
