Programs: The LightHouse provides programs in five broad service areas:

TRAINING AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT promotes the quality and availability of independent living skills training options for blind, deaf-blind and visually impaired individuals.

EMPLOYMENT AND TECHNOLOGY skills are important tools for independence among blind and visually impaired individuals. The LightHouse supports training in these areas.

Through our INFORMATION AND RESOURCES service area, the LightHouse provides blind and visually impaired people living in Northern California with resource options and information needed to live independently.

Through ACCESS TO INFORMATION, the LightHouse connects the individual to the visual world he or she lives in throught alternative formats, an accessible web site and recording servics.

EDUCATION AND LIFE-LONG LEARNING is designed to increase educational and recreational opportunities for individuals with vision loss of all ages and backgrounds.

The mission of the LightHouse is to promote the independence, equality and self-reliance of people who are blind and visually impaired through rehabilitation training and relevant services such as access to employment, education, government, information, recreation, transportation and the environment.

I have been working with my client, Virginia for over a year now. We meet once a week in her home, and my job is to do reading and writing for her. I have been a volunteer at the LightHouse since 2002.
