Save Million Trees, Inc.

Results: We started this organization relatively recently, and have approximately 400 supporters. More is needed. We are actively doing fundraising to fund environmentally friendly ads, using facebook, google, and other venues, and to fund no junk mail stickers and mailings to our supporters. More money is desperately needed to get the word out.
Target demographics: People in United States and Canada
Direct beneficiaries per year: Our goal is to reach 300,000 supporters to refuse junk mail - this will result in over 1 million trees staying in our forests! Every member will benefit by gaining more time not having to deal with junk mail, and the real results will be worldwide in the reduction of emission gases and global warming!
Programs: Our main program is to reach individual people and assist them in reducing waste. Our secondary program is to inform and assist associations to reduce the waste their community as a whole produces.

I'm a preschool teacher, and before Save Million Trees, Inc. stepped in, we had no recycling programs in place. Now, after Save Million Trees made sure every classroom has recycling bins and got us all excited about recycling, you could not stop our four-year olds from recycling! Paper plates, plastic forks, leftover materials from arts and crafts....kids just cannot wait to get them in the bins! The bins are great - they are different colors for different items, but they also have pictures of items that go in them - making it extremely easy for children to choose. It's almost funny how, when one forgets to recycle and tries to place something in the trash, the other children step in and make sure every plastic for goes where it needs to. Many parents have told us that their children got the whole family recyling! Wonderful program! I signed up for their Stop Junk Mail as well, and my mailbox has 1/10 of the stuff that used to be there! I recommend warmly! This program works!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Oh, yes I have! I see every day how enthusiastic my kids are about recycling, and how they ponder if something can be recycled or not! Wonderful program!
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
We waited approximately 2 months for our bins and materials, I guess due to so many schools listing to get them. If I could make changes, I would make the process faster - but I guess they do their best with the funding they have. Great program, all in all!

How do you feel you were treated by this organization?
How did you find this group?
A parent of one of our students had heard of them and suggested we sign up and start recycling. She, like many parents, likes our preschool to be green
What, if any, change in your life has this group encouraged?
Seeing the effect in our school has really made me pay attention to recycling at home as well. I have to admit that I did not recycle much, but after reading materials and talking with the people with Save Million Trees I now realize that it matters what one individual does.
