Mission: To promote the historic preservation, protection, and use of the city of sandusky, ohio's traditional downtown area. In addition, its focus is on the elimination of physical and economic detioration of the downtown area and the promotion of the historical and cultural significance of downtown sandusky. The association seeks to improve and restore the vitality of downtown sandusky by undertaking activities designed to preserve its traditional downtown area as a healthy, economically vital center of commerce and social activity. It also promotes preservation, rehabiliation, and reuse of the commercial, civic, and residential buildings on the business district.
Programs: Smsa partnered with the city of sandusky to hire a consulting firm to conduct a long term downtown parking master plan. This plan will provide the necessary framework to address the parking infrastructure as we continue to revitalize and renovate the vacant buildings as well as the upper floors of the downtown building inventory.
the frost-parker foundation provided a grant to sandusky main street association to promote the development of gallery space for local and regional artists to display their art work in downtown sandusky. This grant was awarded to the sandusky state theatre who used the grant to transform their former box office and retail store into a gallery space. Artists are showcased at this location providing a varied selection of different mediums and is a perfect fit with the sandusky state theatre's mission of providing a world-class, regional setting for the performing arts, music, and community special events.
party at the plaza is one of the organization's community social events. Friday evenings from june through the first week of august, smsa hosts a free concert series in the downtown to promote awareness of the downtown businesses and the revitalization process that is taking place. Local bands provide live entertainment.
