Mission: Established in 1982, your SCEF was created to address budget shortfalls not covered by the state of California. In 2001, when the district was facing a budget crisis, the SCEF stepped up its fundraising campaign efforts exponentially. It went from being an organization that raised $60,000 in private and corporate funds to one that raised over $300,000 in a single year. As a direct result of the San Carlos community's generosity and vision, The Kid Fund now stands at a record level of $400,000 for the 2004-2005 campaign year. Through this outpouring of incredible support, the SCEF will now be able to alleviate some of the fundraising burden at the school site level and offset program costs formerly shouldered by the PTAs. The continuing evolution of site-by-site fundraising to a more centralized model endorsed by the PTA Coordinating Council will ultimately serve a common vision: to make San Carlos schools the best they can be by raising enough funds to preserve existing programs and provide continual improvements to the curriculum.
Programs: The Kid Fund campaign is our annual giving drive to maintain existing programs and to improve the curriculum at each school in the following areas: Health & Well-Being Programs that impact our children's physical and emotional health. Today we support PE. Tomorrow, we could support programs like Friendship Groups or school nurses. Arts & Sciences Enrichment programs that explore performing arts, fine art, mathematics, and science. Today, we support vocal and instrumental music and the CLC Fine Arts program. In the future, this category could include a full fine arts program, elementary science specialists, and more. Literacy Programs which enhance our children's ability to explore the language arts. Today, your SCEF supports library specialists. Someday, we could offer English language support, middle school reading intervention, or an elementary world language program. What to Give The community has spoken, and we listened! You told us you wanted the SCEF and the PTAs to work together on behalf of each school to avoid "multiple asks." So, in the 2005-2006 academic year, the PTAs will not ask you for a lump sum contribution and will instead direct parents to give to the SCEF. That's why we're raising our suggested donation amount to $500 per child. We encourage you to give whatever you can afford, but please give!

I love volunteering with SCEF. There's nothing better than seeing the looks on our childrens' faces when they find a great book in the library, learn a new song in music or participate in an awesome hands-on science experiment. And, SCEF makes that possible.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the classroom, library and PE field.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

finish some of our governance documents.
