Anybody who enjoys creating crafty yarn items can join this group and make an immediate impact. All our handmade projects go to people in need and the thank you notes we receive make you realize how you are touching lives. The organization makes me believe in random acts of kindness - not just the words, but actually giving and receiving from people you don't know. During Hurricane Sandy our director received blankets from all over the country which she distributed to families in our immediate area. She also connected senders and receivers via email. Can you imagine how heart-warming it is to know that your hand knit blanket is being used by a child who is still living in a shelter? That is just one example of how Project Linus is a great nonprofit.
I have been a blanketeer for 10 years. I love being a part of this organization because the mission, providing comfort to children (and now adults) in need due to sickness or stressful life situations, is close to my heart. When I am working on a blanket, or whatever I might be making, I think about the child who will receive this and I hope it brings them a cuddle and a smile. I hope to continue working with Blankie Depot for many years to come.
This organization lead by an amazing woman
is an excellent example of altruism at work.
Having joined their ranks of volunteers at a
low point in my life made a huge difference
with their welcoming focus. The recipient
organizations are richly rewarded by the lovingly
crafted projects completed by volunteers.
