The Owens Foundation for Wildlife Conservation was established in 1986 by American Zoologists, Dr. Delia and Mark Owens who spent 23 years conducting wildlife research and conservation programs in Africa (Botswana and Zambia) and now are working in the NW US supporting grizzly bear conservation. The OFWC exists to support the Owens' field research and conservation of threatened and endangered species and to encourage and assist qualified field research scientists. We design our programs to create sustainability between human and wildlife populations so that both groups benefit from one another. Education is also a mandate of the OFWC.

I have supported the Owens Foundation and Mark and Delia Owens for more than 20 years. Their practical, sustainable methods of saving wildlife by elevating the lives of local people is the answer for the rest of the world - a balance between man and nature.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
improved security for wildlife and in amazing programs to assist rural Africans with sustainable business opportunities other than wildlife poaching - plus food assurance, education and health programs.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Crumble. I don't know how they do it an on such a small budget.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Being able to support long term sustainability for people and wildlife. Their newsletters are informative and entertaining. They make me feel close to the work in a personal way.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
I have not met the staff except by email. They are very responsive and knowledgeable and effective.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Expand this model to save the wildlife and people of Africa and beyond.
Ways to make it better...
The Owens Foundation could get the word of their work out to a wider audience.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
funding in this difficult economic environment.
One thing I'd also say is that...
Mark and Delia Owens are my personal heros. They set forth without any assurance or support from anyone and made a big difference in the world.
