Target demographics: close the achievement gap and give our students the skills they ned to succeed in college and beyond

Direct beneficiaries per year: 2,200 students and 740 alumni on their paths to and through college

Geographic areas served: South and East Los Angeles

Programs: a high-quality, college-preparatory curriculum in all 9 schools. KIPP LA currently operates 4 elementary and 5 middle schools, serving nearly 3,000 students in South and East Los Angeles. We are part of the nationwide KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) network of 141 schools in 20 states and Washington, DC.

KIPP LA’s schools feature a “no shortcuts, no excuses” philosophy and a strong culture of achievement. Our curricula are designed to provide students a well-rounded education, with sufficient time dedicated to academics, the arts, enrichment, and physical education. KIPP LA’s educators are committed to continually improving their teaching skills, and to giving students the support and motivation they need to excel in school and beyond.

KIPP LA is in the process expanding to 17 schools, and will serve over 9,000 students and alumni by 2018.

Mission:
KIPP LA's mission is to teach the academic skills, foster the intellectual habits, and cultivate the character traits needed for our students to thrive in high school, college, and life.

Through the success of our students, the KIPP LA team and family will serve as a model of excellence and collaborate with others to raise the quality of education in Los Angeles.
Results:
The weighted API score for all students tested at KIPP LA Schools for the 2012-13 school year was 883, including an average elementary API score of 975.

On the California Standards Test, KIPP LA’s schools showed high levels of student proficiency across all grade levels and subjects. KIPP Empower Academy is the highest-performing school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Additionally, KIPP LA Prep is the highest performing middle school in LAUSD for the third year in a row. KIPP LA elementary schools collectively outperform 99% of elementary schools in California.

My child attends KIPP Iluminar. He is currently in Kindergarten. He speaks highly of his teachers and staff and is always anxious for his school activities everyday. He loves his dance and music class as well as his science class with Ms. Stebbins. He proudly comes home and talks to his family ... more »

My daughter attends KIPP: Empower Academy. She's loves the dedication from her teachers and staff. The staff is wonderful, always friendly and welcoming.
