In 1997, a group of teachers, parents and community members were awarded a charter to open one of the first charter schools in the state of Connecticut. The school is housed in a renovated factory building on the Thames River in Norwich. Currently, there are 220 students in grades K-6, with a waiting list. The program utilizes multiage groupings of students, which allows the student to stay with the same teacher for two years. Parents, students and instructors work together to establish a developmentally appropriate program for each student.
