Goodwill Industries was founded in Boston, Massachusetts in 1902 by Reverend Edgar J. Helms. His philosophy of opportunity and inclusion evolved into Goodwill's modern-day mission. Goodwill Industries of Akron (GIA) was established in 1927. Today, GIA, along with 181 other Goodwill organizations in North America, continues to provide work opportunities, through training and job placement, to people who have physical, mental, social or economic barriers to employment.

The Goodwill Industry of Akron, Ohio is a wonderful organization that I am happy to support in both donation of items and being a patron of their stores. I feel the organization is well run. We as a society are so fickle when it comes to the stuff we aquire and it is great that the Goodwill is an organization that utilizes the extra STUFF for a greater cause that is educating people and getting them employed.
