I became involved with CBO 6 1/2 years ago when I participated with the interviews to choose one student for the organization to sponsor. We couldn't decide and took all four. I immediately volunteered to mentor one of these students and also became a board member. I developed an incredible relationship with this student and her family and was delighted to share her graduation from high school and help her and her family with their transition to college and the challenges that accompanied that. I was even more thrilled to watch her graduate from University of Illinois-Champaign and follow her dream to attend Law School. CBO has to date provided opportunities to over 125 students and the one-to-one mentoring is the backbone of the organization. CBO's under resourced students are provided with opportunities that range from ACT tutoring to interviewing skills and an internship fair. I continue to be amazed at the great impact that CBO is having on these students, their families and the communities which they serve. As a volunteer, I believe that we are simply the wind beneath our student's wings and it is incredible to know the pride that is felt watching our students succeed.
