Mission: The CENTER FOR LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT (CLD) is dedicated to developing and sharing effective strategies and systems that help struggling learners become successful through program implementation, professional development, software programs, and research-based learning tools. The CLD staff and team of professional consultants are dedicated to the pursuit of better strategies that support children through the challenges of learning.
Results: CLD has contracted with numerous Texas schools and educational service centers to implement school-based projects and to provide training and consultation. CLD programs, projects and software have been selected year after year for presentation at national education conferences and at multiple state conferences. Most notably, CLD’s Grand Central Station program received recognition as a Promising Practice by the Texas Education Agency. The CENTER FOR LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT has become a hub from which training and best practices have been shared with educators, parents, and community professionals who work with struggling youth across Texas and beyond. Projects include: serving over 20,000 participants through extensive training workshops on learning issues (TASB Approved Provider); building research-based, model demonstration programs for academically at-risk youth in more than 240 school settings (response-to-intervention programs and reading remediation programs); developing and implementing an adolescent coping skills curriculum as a deterrent for negative behaviors; writing age-appropriate coping skills curricula for use in the general education classroom to improve school climate and individual behavior; and helping juvenile justice personnel address the issues surrounding learning-disabled delinquent youth.
Target demographics: struggling learners and the professionals who serve them
Geographic areas served: Texas
Programs: Since 1992, the CLD team of educators and psychologists has developed research-based programs, practices and tools that are both realistic and replicable. The CENTER FOR LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT has a significant history impacting education through highly-rated training, award-winning prevention/intervention projects, and cutting-edge educational software. Since 1995, CLD has been entrusted with over 3 million dollars in grant funds, including funds from the Office of the Governor - Criminal Justice Division, as well as local foundations to implement projects for youth at-risk for school failure.

I have enjoyed learning more about Center for Learning & Development as a board member. The leadership is awesome and knowledgeable of how to better help our educational systems best reach and teach others. I am still in the schools and know and see first hand the needs of our administrators, teachers, students, and families. The needs are great. Center for Learning & Development has the tools needed to reach and teach each need.

I'm going to keep this really simple. Center for Learning and Development gets it and they are doing something about it. My hope is that educators will ask for their help, because children and their families will benefit for the rest of their lives. This is a simple truth. If you are hesitant to seek the help of Center for Learning and Development, because you don't understand, just trust. You may feel that it is not affordable cost efficient, but the results speak for themselves. Again... I say, just trust.

I began my work with Center for Learning and Development (CLD) almost 12 years ago as a presenter and speaker. I have traveled TExas and touched the lives of thousands of teachers that are working in the trenches. I have heard their stories of their struggles and victories and feel honored to be a part of the journey. CLD has made a tremendous difference in bringing research-based training into schools and helping teachers make systemic changes in their schools. Thanks CLD - it has been a wonderful journey!!

My sincere appreciation and love for CLD started when I experienced firsthand the overwhelmingly positive impact it made on the students where I served as high school principal. To be certain, students need a place to belong, among caring and dedicated professionals who are intent on meeting the students where they are. CLD accomplishes this in an exemplary fashion! CLD provided the research, resources, training, feedback, and follow-up necessary to ensure that ALL of our students had the tools to become successful, independent learners. Our failure rate was low, and our graduation rate was 100%. I give CLD much of the credit for this amazing accomplishment. Because of my belief in the power of CLD, I am now serving as a consultant for this nonprofit, providing training to principals as they develop their own comprehensive program to assist struggling learners. It is such a joy to provide training for something that I know, without a doubt, will proactively and positively affect the entire culture at their school.

I began my association with the Center for Learning and Development (CLD) as a board member. After serving on the board for two years, I was so impressed with their dedication to improving the lives of struggling learners that I began to work as an educational consultant for CLD. I am honored to serve in this capacity and to enthusiastically endorse CLD's important work!
