Mission: Bam's mission is to be the home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas.
Programs: Spring season:in january 2015, bam commenced our spring season with the mariinsky at bam, a special two-week engagement by the globally renowned mariinsky opera and ballet companies that featured signature performances of classic repertory. Following the mariinsky at bam, bam's 2015 spring season continued with an eclectic array of programming; highlights included handel's monumental baroque opera semele, a co-production of the theatre royal de la monnaie and kt wong foundation; goodman theatre of chicago's widely acclaimed revival of the iceman cometh, starring nathan lane and brian dennehy; and mystery, a dance and music theater meditation on japanese cultural traditions by performing arts group kodo. The 2015 spring season also featured community and art programming, including bam's 38th annual danceafrica festival and community bazaar.
next wave festival 2014:in september 2014, bam launched our 32nd annual next wave festival with nonesuch at bam, a "festival within a festival" in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of pioneering music label nonesuch records. This series of 14 musical performances commenced with the philip glass ensemble & steve reich and musicians, reuniting legendary composers philip glass and steve reich and their respective ensembles for the first time in over 30 years. Following this exciting series, bam presented an additional 32 groundbreaking next wave productions, reaching a total audience of 122,587. The 2014 next wave festival closed on december 20, 2014 with vijay iyer: music of transformation, a three-part program of work by the award-winning composer and pianist.
education:in 2014-2015, through a broad range of initiatives-including in-school workshops, intensive afterschool programs, and school-time performances of dance, music, film, and theater-bam education engaged up to 38,000 adults, students, families, and teachers in over 225 new york city schools with unparalleled access to interactive, enriching programs for free or for a low, subsidized rate. Bam's education initiatives included arts and literary programs such as arts & justice, shakespeare teaches, young film critics, brooklyn reads, and cultural enhancement programs including the danceafrica education program.

Expenses in this category also include overhead costs covering production management, artist services, marketing, and building operations all in support of the organization's programming. Bam rents its theaters and public spaces to commercial and non-profit groups, as well as community organizations and individuals.
