Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley Overview
Programs: Ballet San Jose presents a season of live ballet performances to more than 60,000 audience patrons annually. Through the Ballet School and the Education and Outreach Program offerings, "Student Matinees", "Ballet Class", and "First Step", a full year of once-weekly paid ballet classes, BSJ is committed to opening the world of the arts to children for whom there is little or no access. These programs introduce 5,000-7,000 children each year to the Ballet, sparking their interest and imagination, and providing them an avenue to pursue their creativity. BSJ also offers a special "Children's Series", which are shortened versions of our full- length ballets, especially designed for young children and their families. We are able to provide these performances at substantially reduced ticket prices, so they are affordable to broader Bay Area audiences. This popular program has helped the Ballet expand its audience to the lower socio-economic demographic. Finally, the Ballet's professional school makes BSJ unique among dance schools in the South Bay Area, with students benefiting from the close connection to an active, professional ballet company, and enjoying company dancers as frequent guest instructors. Additionally, students in both the Open and Professional divisions are cast in company productions to supplement the 'corps de ballet'. Students frequently perform at benefactor and sponsor functions, in addition to public events (e.g., Downtown SJ Holiday Parade), expanding community awareness of the Ballet School.
