Now in its 55th year of service to the community, Waikiki Health is recognized as assisting the highest-risk populations among all Hawaii Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC). The non-profit agency’s mission is to provide quality medical and social services that are accessible and affordable for everyone, regardless of ability to pay. Our primary care clinics, specialty clinics, program sites, and outreach programs welcome everyone, regardless of race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, or any other consideration. Special emphasis is placed on assisting those experiencing homelessness, families and individuals living at or below poverty level, pregnant and parenting women challenged by substance use disorders, and others facing obstacles to accessing care.
In CY 2021 Waikiki Health provided 52,219 in-clinic visits and 4,761 telehealth visits, totaling 56,980 patient visits (a 18.84% increase over the 46,246 visits provided in 2020), serving 10,050 unduplicated patients. Of our 10,050 patients, 70% were covered by Medicaid and/or Medicare, 47% were living at or below poverty level, and 14% were homeless. In response to COVID-19, Waikiki Health administered 5,511 vaccinations and 2,484 tests in CY 2021 to help keep our community safe.
Waikiki Health provides comprehensive primary and preventive medical care that is fully integrated with behavioral health and Native Hawaiian Healing; other services include dental care, optometry, tobacco use treatment, HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C services, gender diversity navigation, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatric care, medical nutrition therapy, chronic disease management, care coordination, pharmacy services, and more.
Target demographics: Waikiki Health Center provides quality medical and social services to everyone, regardless of ability to pay. We place special emphasis on reaching at-risk, hard to reach populations, such as:- Waikiki’s homeless youths- older seniors who are “aging in place”- disadvantaged children who needimmunizations and physical exams to enroll in school- the “working poor”, who work but lack insurance- the underinsured, who are not covered for the medical services they need- homeless individuals and families- people infected with or affected by HIV/ AIDS
