This was our first experience adopting from a Humane Society. I could tell all the cats and kittens here were well taken care of. We left excited with our 2 new kittens and felt prepared with the folder of information they gave us. Great experience! And our kittens love their new home and we love them.

We adopted our cat Brandy, right before Thanksgiving two years ago. The staff at the Cat Shelter were wonderful, and very patient with my search for the perfect companion. The shelter is always clean, the cats well cared for & very worthy of my continued support of their work!

Wonderful & caring people who are so helpful with placement of their cats. We are first time rescue parents and are delighted with Brandy, our blue shorthair!

I used to volunteer for the Knox County Humane Society in the late ‘90s. I used to love this shelter. I used to donate to them for years after I could no longer volunteer. One winter, someone dumped four kittens on my porch. I contacted the Humane Society and they refused to take the litter. I know you have to donate money when turning in an animal and I was willing to do that, but I was refused. That was in ‘07. I was mad, but I decided to give them another chance, understanding that they do have a lot of animals. Well, I was given a dog and needed to have her spayed. I used their clinic. I was overcharged by $5. I argued with the woman, but to no avail. I called the manager and she gave me a sob story about needing the money. At the time, I didn’t have extra money. She finally said she’d refund me and mail it. It never came. This was in 2011. I stopped donating to their shelter. But I recently had a pet die. I wanted to replace her and found lonely hearts advertised for $15. I picked out a lonely heart and confirmed the amount. However, they now call your vet to verify that you take care of your animals. Since it was a Saturday, my vet wasn’t in. Never mind that I was a previous volunteer and had adopted multiple times before. I was sent home without the pet I had fallen in love with. If I hadn’t fallen in love with her, I would have left her there. But come Monday, I got a call at 4:00, just before the shelter closes, alerting me that I do in fact take care of my animals and can adopt. They charged me $25. I just bit my tongue. They told me I was obligated to take my shy cat to a “complimentary” vet appointment. My shy cat was very upset to be shoved into a carrier, cried the whole trip there and then they told me she needed some kind of parasite med that cost me $20. So much for complimentary and no pressure... In the future, I will network with my friends for a pet and only visit my personal vet.

They are the friendliest group of people and really know how to take care of cats. The prices are super reasonable and there really isn’t much of a wait time. Love this place and their staff!!!

My husband and I have taken in six cats from our area in Knox county so far! the Knox County humane society has been a blessing in guiding and helping us to take care of these animals , we have come to love them all as family. It has helped with the cost of all the spaying and neutering that we have had to deal with and the wellness of each of them, we hope we can help in this cause as much as possible as much as they are helping our community !

Last November, a bone thin, sickly little cat found his way to our home. This little guy was in sad shape, I had no idea who to turn to, but I knew he and I had found each other for a reason. Thank goodness I called KCHS, what a great group of people! There isn't a person there who isn't caring, personable, informative and they truly love the kittens and cats they have for adoption.
They offer a wellness clinic on Tuesdays and the DVM is awesome!! I am so thankful, so grateful for KCHS and the amazing people who run it. The people of Mt. Vernon are so fortunate to have this, KCHS deserve our support 110%!

Knox County Humane Society staff are incredible people to be around. I have seen personally how well they maintain their building, their animals, and their relationship with the public. These people work in this environment because they CARE. They put in long hours doing tedious work, day in and day out, without thank you's and recognition. They only want normal happy lives for these poor animals who have been left to fend for themselves for whatever reason. I will always recommend this place for anyone wishing to adopt a cat.

Knox Co Humane Society has bent over backwards to help the animals in their care and the people of this county deal with ferral cats, pet cats and kittens. The staff at the facility is quite knowledgable, very caring and friendly, the facility itself is very clean. The staff spends time with the animals, has a low cost spay/neuter, and vaccination program for any cats in the area. Their facility is almost full all of the time and they have a waiting list for cats that must be surrendered. If they had a bigger building with more funds their program would be one of the best in the country. I would highly recommend KCHS to anyone in the county. Deb Blevins, Mt Vernon, Oh
