Mission: To improve the quality of life for dogs living outdoors by removing chains, building fences, providing shelters, offering spay/neuter, and raising awareness about the physical, mental and emotional needs of dogs and why chaining a dog is inhumane and dangerous.
Results: We start in May 2009 with a goal of unchaining one dog each month. Demand was so overwhelming and the need so great, we unchained 75 in our first year. After a decade in operation, we've unchained over 2,200 dogs. Each do we unchain receives a free fenced yard, an insulated dog house, spay/neuter surgery as needed, and urgent veterinary care as needed.
Direct beneficiaries per year: We unchained 275 dogs in 2019
Almost 40 years ago I had to give up my beloved Great Dane and carefully screened the person adopting him. One agreement we made was that he would never be put on a chain as he was deathly afraid and would choke himself trying to get out while barking frantically. I dropped by for an unannounced visit as we agreed on. My dog was gone sent to a “trainer” who had told the man to shoot him with a BB gun to stop the barking while he was chained. Every time I donate and every time I hear about another dog being freed, I cry with happiness and send some love to heaven for my gentle giant! Thank you for your hard work and devotion to these dogs who deserve the love and freedom you give! ❤️
My friend volunteered with this organization and told me of a fund raising event. I was immediately in support once I learned all they do for dogs. Dogs are a wonderful companion for humans and when they are ignored or abused the good people must intervene. I feel Fences for Fido is a group of very kind and generous people that work tirelessly to give dogs the freedom and care they deserve. I donated $100 that night and felt proud to support this nonprofit. My pre-teen daughter was with me at this event and exposing her to this caliber of leadership had a lasting effect on her expectations of humanity. I look forward to another opportunity to contribute to this well deserved group. Thank you, Amy Davis
And incredibly well run charity that helps the saddest of dogs chained up in their backyards. They help the dogs achieve freedom and help owners who sometimes don’t have another choice or just need to be educated about the options. So appreciative for all of their great work!
