Mission: Equilibrium Dynamics (EQD) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching adults and children how to build a life in which feelings empower, rather than sabotage relationships, activities and careers. Everbody has feelings. But not everybody is familiar with the fundamental principles and basic dynamics of those feelings. We teach key aspects of feelings as well as the related skills and strategies for managing them.  These topics are commonly known as emotional intelligence (EQ), emotional competence or Social Emotional Learning (SEL).  Research indicates that these skills and strategies empower students for success whenever they are applied. Goals: - Empower individuals to reach highest realistic goals in academic achievements, occupations, and healthy living in functional families. - Increase public awareness and practice of emotional competence skills to create thriving institutions and safe neighborhoods with community participation for the common good. - Partner with others for maximum impact and efficiency, putting emotional competence into practice. - Contribute to the knowledge and experience in this field and our own effectiveness through ongoing evaluation of our programs.

Equilibrium Dynamics did a 3-part Emotional Intelligence series for our organization this summer. The trainers were engaging and offered relatable content for my staff that challenged their emotional maturity. We also got a chance to dive deeper on professional and personal experiences that we had never shared before. That's the type of space and environment EDQ creates. Our self-care is now at the forefront of every staff meeting now. We are even planning a staff retreat this Fall. Thanks to EQD, we now have polished emotional capacity and skills to help serve our youth.

I have enjoyed serving on the Board of Equilibrium Dynamics and watching the growth and development of this fine non-profit organization since its inception. I have been impressed with the dedication, creativity and hard work that have gone into the development of workshops, teaching modules and materials generated by Dr. Flowers and her associates at EqD to support the learning and success of students and professionals from disadvantaged communities. It feels great to play a small part in an organization which is developing solutions to one of our divided nation's major problems.

This organization continues to have a great impact on the lives of people of various backgrounds and education levels, including parents of vulnerable teens, teens experiencing significant life trauma, minority medical students and graduate students. I'm excited to see how their new online Feeling Management Course will widen their reach, and help numerous people lead healthier lives, and maintain healthier relationships and careers.

Dr. Flowers has used emotional competence teaching to empower medical students at UCSF, including myself years ago, to leverage their relationships, life experiences, and emotions for their success. Through Equilibrium Dynamics she and her team are reaching out to our community, especially underserved communities, to empower children, parents, students, and professionals in their relationships and careers. I'm always in awe at how much of an impact her teachings on emotional intelligence have on everyone who has the opportunity to complete her course.

It is a privilege to serve on the Board of EQD. The organization continues to provide an essential service providing both direct tuition to diverse groups, and courses with a strong curriculum for furthering the teaching of Emotional Competence.

I am excited to see the future development for using online and mobile technology to reach a wider audience for this much needed skill.

I have been a volunteer board members of this Equilibrium Dynamics for 8 years now and I am proud to be associated with the organization. Equilibrium Dynamics has made a real difference by both directly teaching youth and community members and by training professionals how to teach them as well. The goal of teaching emotional competence is a vital one in today's society. Equilibrium Dynamics accomplishes this goal with intelligence and humor. Definitely an organization to watch and support.
