What we love most about SOMACC is their quiet and diligent work to make sure that all kids are equally nurtured and enriched. They go out of their way to ensure proper resources and engage the families of every kid. I was very touched when I saw they keep a food pantry, accessible but out of sight, for families; I was also moved to tears when they held 'movie nights' for our kids during the pandemic and made sure that each kid had not only access to the movie, but also to snacks and activities at home. It is such a blessing to have our son in such a loving, healthy, and diverse environment. He is thriving and so are all his friends. If only we could keep this spirit of equity and enrichment throughout people's entire education journey!

Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Child Day Care, Children & Youth, Education, Preschools
Mission: South of Market Child Care, Inc.'s (SOMACC) mission is to serve children, their families, and the South of Market (SOMA) community by providing quality early care and education and free comprehensive family support services in a safe and nurturing environment.
Results: We started as a one-room preschool in 1970 and have grown over the last five decades to three child development centers that serve nearly 130 young children ages 0-5 every year, and a free comprehensive family resource center that serves almost 500 individuals each year.
Target demographics: We serve children, youth and adults who work/reside in the South of Market neighborhood, and throughout San Francisco.
Direct beneficiaries per year: We provide high quality early care and education program to nearly 130 children ages 0-5 years at our two locations: the Yerba Buena Gardens Child Development Center and Transbay Child Development Center. Moreover we serve approximately 500 children, youth and adults with family support and services at our South of Market Family Resource Center each year.
