I have been active with Pratham since 1998 and found it to be an outstanding NGO contributing to improve education in India. While in the US I was involved in raising funds for Pratham activities. Now that I have moved to Pratham, besides raising funds I am also involved in the management of Pratham Mysore. Thanks to decentralization of Pratham, we are able to experiment with different strategies while still following the directions of the head quarters.
My involvement in Pratham was in two ways, I took part in Pratham's entertainmnet side where I performed on the stage to bring people enjoyment and promote Pratham's philosphy of bringing education to as many children all over India. Second, I did the singing as well as put in my pledge to help Pratham succeed in providing a necessary fundamental for each child to succeed in their life and thus help India succeed in the world and make the world a better place. So the path that Pratham is fullfilling is a monumental feat of great value to all the children with no value. I wish them all the best in their endeavor!!!
I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Pratham from a friend a few years ago. As a non-Indian, living in NYC from Australia, I was deeply touched by their motivation and objective and since have been able to help anyway I can by raising awareness and introducing others to this great thing Pratham...
I have been involved with Pratham organization since 2004. My family visited three Pratham schools in Dec 2008 around Kandivli, Mumbai and in Mysore. We met the teachers, students and coordinators. Our experience was extremely fruitful and invigorated our enthusiasm of supporting Pratham. The best part of Pratham is to support millions of children all across India. The successful model can be applied by every one at any level and can be started with very low budget.
Pratham is a great organization that has accomplished a lot in a short time. It is a very focused organization with a great volunteer force that is so dedicated. I have been extremely impressed and at times overwhelmed with emotions when I see young volunteers making a difference in kids lives in India.
I have been associated with Prathan Los Angeles for over 4 years. What they are doing in not only unique but also monumental given the population of a country like India and the numberof children who do not have access to elementary learning tools or curriculum. I wish them the best in their quest to educate all the children in the slums of India
Wonderful organization that is now positively impacting over 22 million kids in India. Their Read India and ASER foundation reports are now national standards. Its a top rated charity with 6% or so in admin expenses.
Pratham is a great organization to be associated with. They have helped literally hundreds of thousands of children transform their lives through education and now vocational training. From slums to rural outposts to prisons and factories employing child labor, Pratham has championed a child's right to learn and grow. Kudos to Pratham for working tirelessly to put every child in school, learning well.
Pratham does a great job of providing education, which gives the power to an individual to choose. The children can learn and grow in their life having choices - succeeding through knowledge rather than living through hard labor all their life. Thanks Pratham. Keep it going.
Way before Slumdog Millionaire...Pratham was in Dharavi teaching nitpickers (the children who live on and off the garbage dumps) how to read. I will never forget the site visit I did there as a donor on behalf of a Fortune 50 company seeing both the children who lived with parents in homes learning additional literacy skills as well as these children living on the street who would be able to access Pratham's services. They do amazing work and to this day, our company has a major partnership with them in Mumbai
I visited a few schools in around Delhi and I really liked what I saw there. Pratham is doing a lot in reaching out to kids. It appears they are now working on giving a lot more quality education as well. Keep up the good work.
I visited the Pratham Schools during my visits to Bombay. They truley are making a big difference in these kids lives and their family's too by providing free education, supplies and books.
I am from the country & even the city where Pratham is doing amazing work to get the children off the streets & give them a future. For those who have seen the movie,"Slumdog Millionaire" - now have an insight into how important is Pratham's work & the true but tough picture is in front of the whole world. They had identified the needs of these children & have been helping them way before any Governmental or NGO's have even looked at their situation. Pratham is taking care of a sector completely ignored by all government progrmas and other charities. Considering the number of kids covered by the program the long term effect will be a national phenomenon and I cannot imagine the difference this organization will make in the future of the country. I have been connected to the organization for the last 5 years and for the first time in my life I felt the money is used for the best possible cause.
Two things make my Pratham experience outstanding. 1. Cause 2. How they go about supporting the cause Since cause (children education in India) is well known, I will limit my comments to "how they go about supporting the cause" - focus and passion for what the org is about - every member is fanatic about educating the children in India - Limited overhead - from what I see, Pratham spends - professional approach - though it is a non-profit, it approaches in meeting the org objective in a very professional way, whether it is building relationships for funding, hosting events or general communications... Great Job Folks...
I have been a Pratham donor and have been associated with its activities for the last three years. I have visited a few villages in India where Pratham volunteers are putting in remarkable effort to eradicate illiteracy amongst children. This is truly an extraordinary organization that is delivering value and making a difference in the lives of children in Indian villages in a truly cost-effective way. I truly believe that their cause is extremely important for the betterment of the lives of underprivileged in rural India.
A very driven and passionate organization. The board members and volunteers are very concerned about the cause and take pride in key statistics and their success.
I have been volunteering for Pratham since the past 6 years - and each year has been more and more remarkable. My whole family is involved - including my mother - 76, son (now 21) and daughter, and my husband. We proudly present to others - our involvement with Pratham and what a remarkable idea to get the kids to be education oriented when they are little, what a great idea to say, what counts is just 'commitment', and what a great idea to say, that teaching a mother, teaches the world - educates the world.
truly amazing!what the government of India has been talking about but has been unsuccessful in achieving___eliminating illiteracy in India, is being accomplished by this NGO with a very simple, scalable and low cost approach. Pratham sends teachers to the slums where kids are unlikely to ever get an education and through innovative techniques, teaches young children to read and do simple arithmetic and thus creates a thirst for knowledge. i have personally visited some of the slums and observed classes being conducted. the children were eager to learn and there was hope in thier eyes instead of the despair we see when they are instead begging. Pratham will succeed where the government has failed-----eliminate illiteracy in India!
I have been a volunteer for pratham Houston for the past 6 years. This organization has done some great work to promote education of children in India.I had the oppurtunity this year to visit some of their schools and management as well. I am glad to say that through this organization it was good to see that I was making a difference.
