Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animal-Related, Animals

Mission: Our mission is “to foster a sentiment of kindness to animals in children and adults.” In 1954, Alice Morgan Wright, NHES board member, wrote of NHES, “In 1948, we incorporated, a small group of us to carry on what we think is one of the urgent needs of our time, Humane Education.” Today, this urgent need is still with us and at NHES we address it through our programs services—all of which serve to educate the public and decrease animal suffering.

My husband and I adopted this sweet love from the wonderful team at Briggs Animal Adoption Center in Charles Town, WV. From the minute we stepped into this facility we were impressed. You can tell how loved, and cared for, these dogs and cats are. We definitely felt like "April" was meant to be ours. After consulting with April (had to have her choose us too!), the Director and the Animal Behavioral Specialist, we were thrilled to find that they all also believed April would do well with us! I appreciate how hard they questioned our lifestyle to ensure that April was the perfect fit for our family. Well, fast forward almost 8 weeks now - we could not be happier with our Peanut (new name. Lol). She is an absolute joy to have around and we just love her so much. I kept saying to my husband in those first weeks, "she was clearly loved while at BAAC - you can just tell it in her demeanor and personality." I do believe the staff and the volunteers are the reason we have such a happy go lucky sweet girl. She was with them for a long time and I am so grateful that she was loved there too. She is a perfect match for us. We take her everywhere - especially to the woods and trails. THANK YOU BAAC!!! We love you! (P.S. I could post 1000 pictures, but will settle on these two!)
