Modest Needs Foundation
Every one of us live with a budget, but things happens and unfortunately we can be out of budget at any time. Exist an organization with its doors open for people looking for support. This organization will be your “Amulet”. Modest Needs Foundation. https://www.modestneeds.org
Modest Needs Foundation is an organization that helps people from USA and Canada no matter what state they are living on. Just completing and signing an online application 24/7. Their mission is work to promote the self-sufficiency of the 'working poor'; the hard-working but low-income individuals and families that conventional philanthropy has otherwise forgotten. This gap leaves low-income but generally self-sufficient individuals and families without access to small amounts of short-term, emergency assistance in favor of providing significant amounts of long-term assistance to these same individuals and families once they've fallen deeply into the cycle of poverty. Modest Needs offers grants to low-income but generally self-sufficient households, displaced workers struggling to return to the workforce, permanently disadvantaged persons struggling to afford medical care, and small non-profit organizations. Grants types: Homecoming Heroes Grant, Self-sufficiency Grant, Bridge Grants, New Employment Grant, Non Profit Grants, and Emergency Fund. Donors will be the “Elixir”, charitably people, who choose to support Modest Needs Foundation.
Modest needs was my “Amulet” in difficult times and two donors that saw my case where my “Elixir”. Is for that reason, my own experience with this organization that I can share my history, because you, also, can be a donor of this nontraditional organization, and help others. Next time can be you, a friend or a family member whom need it.
Thank You Modest Needs and Donors. Both of your were "My Angels"
God Bless Yours.

Modest Needs is simply the best. I was awarded a grant to pay one month of my mortgage after losing two weeks of work because of hurricane Sandy. I truly had no where else to turn and I will forever be grateful. Since then, I have donated in modest amounts to Modest Needs knowing that every little bit helps if we can all come togther and work as one.
Thanks to Modest Needs I am now a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant. I am thankful for such a wonderful organization like Modest Needs. I am now able to financially support my family. They changed my life by helping me pay for a certification that I can be proud of. I am truly thankful.
I believe Modest Needs is an amazing organization and am very impressed with its services, mission statement and staff. I needed to have dental work done at a time where I had very little income. I had delayed the work by over a year, and my tooth was really starting to hurt. I heard about Modest Needs from my EAP program at work and decided to let go of my pride and give it a shot. Shortly thereafter I was able to get the dental care I needed while being treated by Modest Needs with dignity and respect. The experience reminds me of the "Pay it Forward" concept and shows me the world is still a beautiful place. The ability to help others and to be helped makes living a joy!
Modest needs is truly a blessing , they help me get my dentures I didn't know were I was going to get the money. But God is an awesome God who always shows up right on time. thanks modest needs for letting God use you to help people like me, keep on keeping on and God bless you.
Modest Needs was a Godsend for my family in a time of desperate need. One thing that makes Modest Needs stand out from other organizations, is that it is accessed through the web. This in itself, made it easier to request help, because other organizations only help on certain days, etc. This made it nearly impossible for my family to even request help from those places, let alone get it. Modest Needs was the only organization who came through for us, and I wholeheartedly recommend supporting them. I will be a Modest Needs supporter, as long as I am able.
How fortunate I was to have the MS Society refer me to this fabulous organization! When I saw no hope of having my dental work done once I moved back to California (thee cost is ridiculous), I was able to get the necessary funding from both organizations. what a relief!
I am truly thankful for all of the generosity that I have experienced!
Modest Needs.org was there when all the government based organizations
and bureaucrats were asleep at the wheel. As Sandy devastated the entire
neighborhood, it was only Modest Needs.org and one other community based
organization that helped and did so with excellent communication, and
BTW for those of you who do not know the Red Cross spends a mere 7% of funds
raised on disaster relief ( see their yearly financials), whereas Modest Needs
funds and addresses each client directly.
Modest needs is an amaing organization they helped my family after hurricane sandy. Thank you so much
Modest Needs Foundation and its generous donors funded for me much needed therapy sessions and helped me through a personal crisis. As a result of their support I was able to develop skills to alleviate debilitating panic attacks. The impact Modest Needs has made in my life is huge. Situations that used to produce overload––no longer have power over me. I can live unfettered and free. I am so thankful that Modest Needs was there to help me move forward.
During Hurricane Sandy last year I missed several days of work and therefore my pay from my job was shorter than usual. Being as though I am a single parent of 3 kids who depend on me to take care of them I was unable to pay my rent. I found Modest Needs while on google looking for programs to help me immediately. To my surprise I was able to do an application for a grant for my rent and it didnt take long at all to do. I was not trying to think negative but I definitely didnt think I was going to receive anthing because usually I dont. In as little as 2 weeks I spoke with someone from Modest Needs that let me know that I qualified for the grant program and it definitely came as a shock. I was so grateful and it came at the right time.
I became permanently disabled two years ago and had to walk away from a career that I loved. In doing so, I lost half my income and do not have a spouse or family to help me. It has been incredibly difficult for me to pay for unexpected emergencies and not having a savings to fall back on and not being able to earn extra money, I turned to Modest Needs for help. I honestly didn't think my grant was going to be funded for tires for my car to pass inspection and at the last minute, it was funded. I was shocked and amazed. I honestly don't know what I would have done without the generosity I received from strangers through Modest Needs Foundation. It truly was a gift and I will be forever grateful to those that helped me. This is a wonderful organization and I would recommend them to anyone who is needing help.
hello eddieandfamily moodest needs has been a honor.when I was in need to lose our utilities.thank to moddest needs they made a way .I thank god for moddest needs and it staff.moddest needs cares and will do what ever it takes to help you.i recommend you contact moddest needs if you are struggling from day to day, they will make a way.
I don't know where to begin. Everytime I think of the kindness and generousity that was shown to me by Modest Needs it brings tears to my eyes. I can't afford much but I do have a very small amount of money electronically taken from my back account every month. It's not so much the amount as it is the steadiness of it. If anyone can help pay if forward, please give Modest Needs what you can. It is an amazing organization.
I was terminated from my job in June of last year. I was not able to collect unemployment and was in a bind with this new car that I had. I seen an ad about Modest Needs right after we where hit by Hurricane Sandy. Of course I was doubtful like I am not going to get the help that I need to bring my care payment up to date. Well long and behold less then 2 weeks later after I applied on line I received that help from donors. I was, am and will always remain thankful for the help that I received through Modest Needs.
Modest Needs came through for my family last year. We were getting ready to lose our utilities and had no one to turn to. The generosity of Modest Needs enaed us to keep our utilities on and was a factor in my family getting back on track.
This nonprofit does a wonderful job at helping people! I have seen the powerful benefits of its purpose!
I had been struggling with finding gainful employment when I was offered a position in an insurance agency. The only requirement was that I become a licensed property and casualty producer. I had been looking for so long I jumped at the opportunity without thinking about the cost of becoming licensed. After classes, books, registration fees and testing fees the total was almost $500. Modest needs was able to assist me in my endeavor by paying for my class which was a big portion of the costs. Having my class paid for made it easier for me to pay for my books, and testing fees. I am now a licensed property and casualty producer and I owe it all the Modest Needs who helped me when I didn't see a way. This organization is a true blessing for so many people! I honestly don't know where I would be without their help. Thanks again.
My family was hit very hard by Storm Sandy and we lost so much. We had to relocate for almost 9 mos. Modest Needs helped pay for one months rent. This donation to us helped tremendously. The expense of paying a mortgage, utilities and rent on top of trying to replace our belongings was just overwhelming. We heard about Modest Needs and contacted them. They helped us in our time of need and we are forever grateful.
Modest needs help us with the Florida heat when our ac unit outside is on the blink and granted us funds to receive a portable ac unit for the inside of the house. We greatly believe what modest needs is doing is a god send to people in need we thank them
Their is not enough words or paper to explain about Modest needs, I was out of work and my lights were turned off and my young son has asthma, I applied to Modest Needs for help and after my application was processed they was able to help me with 1381.00, I couldnt stop thanking GOD for his blessing to have this organization in place. The staff was so heartful and grand in helping me and my family that it was unbelieveable that in this world their are still people that are nice and respectful even in the time of rougness you go through. My eyes were swollen from crying and I could hardly write them a thank you for my son asking now we dont have to smell the gas from the generator we was using to supply the house. So I just want to say before I start crying not is thank you so much for helping me and my family and with that said I joined Modest Needs and each month I support $10.00 to help anyone who is in need. Kim & Family
When my 1yr old son was admitted to the hospital and required surgery our family was devastated. Our first thought was his health and the bills quickly overwhelmed us while we sat in the hospital room praying for our son's life. Modest needs was the first to help us in our time of crisis.
There's no words to express when it comes to this non profit organization. If I was one of the donors this is the one out ot million charities to give to.They help people. You know where the money goes.
Modest Ned Foundation did an amazing job. My family is a Sandy victim, we lost a lot during disaster. So we need to fix our house. Modest Needs helped us with the loan $1500 - it help us A LOT!
As head of household and a family of four, including an eleven year old special needs daughter, I was a victim of Hurricane Sandy by the experience of 8 ft of water in our home, a flooded car,and a broken garage. My home insurance denied our claim, and SBA was no help either. Because we take care of my daughter without help from any agency, things were getting hard financially. I turned to the Modest Needs Foundation for some much needed help, and was treated with kindness, dignity and responses that were satisfying to the soul. This made me feel as though an angel was waiting with a helping wand. My family and I thank Modest Needs from the bottom of our hearts for the much needed help in the time of need.
Modest Needs Foundation is a GREAT non-profit! They helped me when no one else would or could. There should be more foundations out there like Modest Needs. The world would be a much better place if everyone could get help from others and have a place to help others when it is most needed!
Modest needs helped me with a month's rent during a very difficult time. They helped me with dignity. I greatly appreciate that I never felt demeaned by their treatment. They understood that it was hard to ask for help.
Modest Needs was the only organization that was able to help me out with one of my needs. I had 5 surgeries within 3 years and tried to get help with medical bills and insurance co-payments from different organizations but there was always something that kept me from qualifying. The help I received from Modest Needs came at a perfect time and was uplifting to my spirit after being turned down so many times before. I appreciate this organization that met the need I had instead of saying no like everyone else.
Modest Ned Foundation did a great job. My family is a Sandy victim, we lost everything
during disaster except our lives - Thank God! So we need to start our house from the
very beginning. Modest Needs helped us to get a free refrigerator which cost around 600.00 doll. It was a substantial help. Not every organization was at the same level of understanding how to help people in need. One more time want to say thank you for a wonderful group of volunteers.
This is a great nonprofit that actually helps people in need. Yes, it might be difficult to reach someone by phone but it is because they are set up to work online to speed up the process and indeed they do. Because they are an online company they take applications over the Internet and that cuts down on time and speeds up the entire process. The only down side is that you must be computer literate to use this website. I have used this nonprofit and very satisfied with the results and the speedy responses. I would strongly recommend it to others.
I can't begin to express what the Modest Needs means to me and my family. We want to express our thanks and our deepest appreciation for their profound contribution in providing financial assistance to us, the money helped us purchase a door blown off by Hurricane Sandy. They were just so helpful to us in this difficult time of rebuilding our home. But more than the monetary value, we found a ray of light in people: good, caring and thoughtful people that all of you are. The after effects of Hurricane Sandy has been hard on us, but their actions have really lightened the load, and our hearts. For that especially, we thank you. We are not yet rebuilt even after 10 months since Sandy hit, but hope to be within the next month. Please know we won't forget the most kind gesture. Count on Modest Needs when you can not count on the American Red Cross or Foundations that host concerts to raise money worldwide, the funds hardly ever reach the people who need them, Modest Needs is on the right track aiding individuals.
Modest Needs is a very helpful organization. I sent an email out to my friends and coworkers letting them know that there is a program out here like this because they had no clue. I advise them of how helpful Modest Needs was to me. I am a single mother that was in critical need of help and this program came through for me when no one else could. I am now making arrangements to make donations whenever I can to help others like me. I give Modest Needs and A+!!!
i'm a single disabled mom witih a lot of medical problems including 2 abdominal surgeries with complications and the bills are many and non stop so when Modest Needs found donors to help me pay a gi bill, I was ecstastic!; this then provided me relief from this bill to focus more on my health and son; thx. again Modest Needs!
I am very pleased to write a review. With the help of Modest Needs, I am still employed. I have a greater sense of Peace. Before the help of Modest Needs was funded, I was afraid and felt very little Peace. My need was a severe break job. Having reliable breaks is a big safety concern when you are commuting 3 young children. After having the breaks repaired, my family and I feel much safer. We do not have the worry of breaking down or hearing the high pitched sound of applying our breaks at each stop. Modest Needs is about the only source of assistance out there that I know of that is willing and able to assist anyone who needs help! My family nor friends could come to my rescue, but I can honestly say that Modest Needs was there for me and my family not only this time but in times past too! THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR TIMELY SUPPORT:)
I had come to a point in my life that I was going through some hard times, and I came across Modest Needs. I asked for help with my car, and as I have no one to help, they were so amazing and gave me the support when I needed the most. I so appreciate what they did for me.
The people that work at Modest Needs are angels sent from Heaven! I needed help to obtain a teaching license so that I could use my education to get hired (athough that hasn't happened yet) I am well prepared with a full K-12 license because Modest needs funded the testing I needed for licensure.
Everyone was professional, making sure I felt respected while getting the help I need. The process was easy and I am thankful.
I felt so blessed and so very thankful for the generosity of the donors at Modest Needs. I had no idea where I would get the money from for my notary license but God and the people at Modest Needs helped me within a matter of days. I had my check and was on my way to becoming a licensed notary. I appreciate all your help and support.
I work for an agency that administers funds to help people pay their rent, otherwise known as section 8. I found myself in a situation where my utilities were going to be shut off due a string of personal financial circumstances. As a single mother of two children, I felt ashamed that I was in this position and could not provide for my children. I am a memeber of the "working poor" , do not receive child support and do not qualify for many services. An emergency financial need can really set me back on my budget and put me behind on bills. Modest needs was able to assist me and prevent my service from being shut off. I am eternally grateful to all the people who help make this organization a success! I now refer clients who are in desperate need to this site. They are lifesavers in times of crisis.
I am forever grateful from the kindness of Modest Needs. I am overwhelmed with gratitude. These past couple months have been a real struggle for me, emotionally and financially, and knowing that there were people who wanted to help me through this is beyond miraculous to me. I don’t have children, so my 4 dogs and my rescue dogs mean everything to me. I volunteer my spare time taking in rescue dogs and finding homes of them. Not being able to provide for them killed me, and not knowing how I would pay my mortgage was unbearable. Me and my dogs are forever grateful, and I look forward to helping other people and animals when I am back on my feet again. Thank you Modest Needs and all the beautiful souls that cared about my story!!! I am rebuilding my home after Hurricane Sandy, and it is all because of people like you! I am now hopeful and know I can do this! I am excited to move forward!
They were great. The process was easy. I just had to provide a few pieces of information and within a week after I made my request and the information they needed I received a check made out to the bill I needed help with.
Modest Needs has been nothing less than a breath of fresh air for us after our home and property were devastated by Hurricane Sandy. We live on the South Shore of Long Island, and our home was filled with over 8 ft. of water. My car was flooded as well. MN came to the rescue by assisting us in defraying some of our expenses and costs that we incurred due to our significant losses. The respect and personal interest they have displayed towards us (and I am certain to all who they have helped) is something that is above and beyond one would expect. I can't think of another organization who treats each and every individual as if they were their only client.
Modest Needs is a wonderful organization that is there to assist the "working poor" who are normally unable to receive assistance during periods of crisis. What I believe makes it unique is that they do not necessary fund your situation directly but rather post your difficulty (minus personal info) and have others in the community assist you. You do not have to be rich to support someone in a difficult time either. As a contributor, you can do a little as a dollar to help an individual or family out of a temporary crisis. I was personally in a situation where I was behind on my mortgage due a string of life circumstances. Modest Needs was able to assist me and helped to get me back on my feet. I now donate on a monthly basis to this wonderful organization as well as pass their information on to others I know going through difficult times. Thank you again Modest Needs for being there!!
Hi all! Modest needs helped my family pay a very unexpected bill just in time. We where in need of a new way to heat our house and about to lose the house and they helped pay a bill that helped us keeps our house. We where then able to fix the heat to keep our kids warm. I will forever be thank full to modest needs for helping my family.
Hi all: I was introduced to Modest Needs about two months ago since I was devastated by Hurricane Sandy in Far Rockaway, New York. I can afford to tell you about the professionalism of this Non-Profit organization and how patient and willing they were to work with clients. I went online to fill out my information which was pretty straightforward and then I had to send information to the organization. Whenever I had to call to speak with someone they were very helpful and assisted you immediately. I have shared information about this organization with my friends and family. In the end I was quite fortunate to get a grant from them which did help to defray some of the cost for my contractor. I recommend them highly and I have promised whenever I am able to contribute to an organization in the future Modest Needs will be very high on my list.
Modest Needs helped me in my time of need when I couldn't find anyone else that could. Because I am working and have an income that barely allows me to survive I am not qualified to apply for help through most charitable organizations but my unexpected medical bills were not something that I could handle on my own. Through Modest Needs one of my medical bills was fully funded and my life has been changed. Not only because it and my other medical bills are a large amount of money (to me) that I would have struggled to pay off but because it just reiterates my point that the cynics in this world saying everyone is selfish and doesn't look out for anyone but themselves are wrong. Modest Needs shows that there are great people out there who are selfless and want to help people who are doing all they can to make ends meet but are struggling.
Since my experience with the organization, I have brought Modest Needs to the attention of people who I know are struggling or people who are looking for organizations to donate through who ask me about my experience after speaking about it publicly through social media. This is something I will continue to do because I have personally experienced the greatness that comes from this organization.
When Modest Needs helped me recently it was one of the happiest days of this year. I was struggling
with the problem of having no money to pay for my Continuing Education in order to be able to renew
my appraisal license. I couldn't believe it! They paid for my classes and now I'm appraising again!!
I have contributed to Modest Needs but not as much as I would like. When I finally earn enough money
I will once again contribute to the best charity I know!
I've been following Modest Needs for years, and I can say with certainty that these folks are at the very top of their field. Not only are they willing to take on work that no one else seems willing to do (they help the 'working poor' - people who don't qualify for charity most of the time), they do so carefully, with integrity, careful due-diligence, and an awful lot of kindness. I have tremendous respect for the persons who work with Modest Needs and will continue to support their work for a very long time to come.
I had received an email saying that my application was fully funded. I am truly grateful for the genorosity given to me at this difficult time.
Modest Needs Foundation!!
For many years, I have been following the evolution of Modest Needs from a one-man operation into a nationally-recognized non-profit organization. The one thing that impresses me most is that this organization has never lost its vision or compassion, even as it has taken on more and more responsibility, more and more clients, and learned to do more and more work with less. I admire this organization for keeping its focus and for staying true to its own 'modest' roots. They understand that people matter most, and that as long as they continue to do good work, the support they need to continue that work will be there. I intend to be a part of that support for a very, very long time to come. I hope you'll consider joining me. This organization is truly worthy of any support you can offer it.
As a member of the military and someone who has proudly served this country, I am proud to write a review of Modest Needs, as they were the only organization willing to help me when a lapse in my military pay left me, my wife, and our three children almost homeless. Modest Needs didn't treat us like numbers. They treated us like people. I never once felt 'ashamed' to have asked for help, and I can absolutely assure you that I will be returning to this organization once my financial position has stabilized. This time, though, I'll be coming to Modest Needs as a donor.
I have often been told that I was crazy to believe in the possibility for kindness and compassion from people who in any other circumstance might be considered strangers. Believing as I have, nothing could have prepared me for what I experienced as I watched individuals from all over the world reaching out to my mom and myself through Modest Needs! We know that Modest Needs' decision to help us was not done without careful consideration, and we want EVERYONE to know what a difference it has and will continue to make in our lives. We will return to Modest Needs to further their work giving through gifts of our own. I would encourage everyone to do the same. If an organization ever deserved the support of the public, it's this one.
The generosity and willingness of this organization and its donors to reach out and help those in need is extremely inspirational to me and to my family. I am a college graduate who works very hard just to make ends meet while dealing with college loan payments, and supporting myself. I did not expect hurricane Sandy to personally affect me because I didn't live in an evacuation zone. However, I was without work for two weeks. I missed half a month of work, but that doesn't mean I can pay half my bills, or half my rent. Modest Needs' hurricane relief program has given me the extra boost needed to fulfill my fiscal needs and for that I am ever grateful and will, once I am in a position of financial stability, look to pay this forward to further demonstrate my utmost gratitude to this organization.
I nearly lost my apartment because of I was unemployed for a very short period of time. No one would help me. No one. Then, I found Modest Needs. They helped me keep my home, which will help me keep my job. It has meant so much to me that there are people with big understanding hearts out there. I should now be able to get things in order and can't say how much I appreciated their kindness. It really has changed my life.
I am writing with great humility and unbridled appreciation for the assistance that has been bestowed for relief of the disastrous effects that has been left by Hurricane Sandy. I cannot begin to describe what the implications of this help means. It has been given at a time when not only losses have been sustained financially, but stress and the ability to continue going to school have been furthered and relieved on a level that also improves my health, both psychological and physical. I am grateful to Modest Needs for getting help to our family quickly and, more importantly, cherish the empathetic message of humanity that has been rendered by the organization's treatment of our family at this very difficult time.
I became a donor to Modest Needs shortly after the organization launched. I later became a monthly donor, and I've never stopped giving because this is one place that I can really see the impact of my contributions. I especially love getting the thank you letters from people I've been able to help via my contributions. Modest Needs really understand high-impact, low-cost giving, and I highly recommend them to everyone.
My wife, kids (all 10 of them), and I are very greatful for the help Modest Needs gave us with our rent at a very trying time in our lives. Their kindness helped to retore our faith in people as it was shaken when our landlord let the home we were renting go into foreclosure. She was taking our rent money, but not paying her mortgage. At this time of year, it is a great blessing to have people like these help out a family like ours.
After Hurricane Sandy, I was left worrying what I would do since I missed a week's work and I was afraid I would not be able to pay my rent. I tried to contact every family member and I wanted to get help, but I didn't find anyone to assist me until I saw information about Modest Needs on Fox 5 news and I contacted the organization. In less than 72 hours, they SAVED my daughter and I from going getting evicted and having to go to live in the shelter. I truly am blessed to have found this organization. They were my angels!
This Organization was one of the first I ever signed up for to be involved in and to help others. I have not ever personally had to inquire about help but have sent a lot of people to this charity for a number of things, help, donations, sponsors ect. Being a bored member of a Childrens Organization myself, it was important to find other Organizations that believe in the same ethics, fundamentals, and morals as the Organization that I belong to myself. Dr Keith Taylor and his entire staff have an abundance of compassion for their fellow man, this too is admirable and enough for myself and my Organization to Endorse Modest Needs.
This charity helps those who might otherwise fall through the cracks and end up homeless, hopeless, or otherwise distressed. They do more with small donations than any other charity I know of. I have been a donor for several years, and personally know recipients of their wonderful works.
I was raised on positive thinking and giving to others. When I discovered Modest Needs, I knew I'd found a charity worthy of my limited resources. I've been disabled for nearly 20 years, but I make sure my small donation goes monthly to this resourceful organization. Modest Needs helps those who don't fit the criteria required by other charities, and who would otherwise enter the downward spiral into poverty because of a single, unavoidable event if Modest Needs' donors were not to step in with help. Please give generously to Modest Needs--they not only keep recipients from becoming a burden on society (that's all of us), but they help them maintain their dignity at the same time!
Unlike the previous poster, I actually do have expertise in this field, and I reviewed all of this organization's filings and audits going back for years. What they show is that the CEO of this organization made exactly the median salary of persons working in his capacity in similarly sized organizations based in New York City until the recession, at which time the CEO took a sizable pay cut. Simultaneously, the organization's program spending actually increased. Any person who actually were a non-profit professional would know that these are hallmarks of excellent management and a commitment to the mission of the organization on the part of its leadership, so I'm not so sure that the previous poster has any kind of expertise in this field whatsoever. Sounds more to me like someone with an axe to grind . . .
The CEO draws almost 2 hundred thousand dollars a year and car allowances.Looks like he is helping himself out from poverty.A score of 57.20 is the lowest and that is Modest Needs.
Review from CharityNavigator
