I became homeless due to landlord issues and had no where to go. I was on the county bus and a gentlemen told me about The Mission in Citrus homeless shelter. I called and spoke with Jim and asked if he would allow me to bring my dog with me and he said we will give it a try. My dog and i now have been here for a little over 3 months. Mr jiggles is now the mascot for the shelter. If it wasn't for the shelter and Jim allowing me to have Mr.Jingles with me i would be in the woods but gratefully he has allowed us to be together. Since arriving i have been searching for property and housing to hopefully one day own of my own. My experience here at the shelter has helped me gain confidence and a family of brothers and sisters. I am able to save money to put towards my future home. Since I have met Jim, Delva, and others that help with the shelter I have been able to gain more confidence in other people. I am very grateful and honored to have Jim as a friend for he is a great human being who has a heart for others.

The mission in citrus is a very nice and maintained place to stay, before I came here I was in the ocala national forest with 3 small children in a tent. I am very blessed my family was brought into a place that will help you in every way they can. Yes there may be rules but that is how things run smoothly and everyone helps each and everyone out. I originally had barely any clothes nor did my kids and husband we now have quite a bit. The kids have everything they need and always get a hot shower/bath.
I fell into hard times and a friend of mine told me about The Mission in citrus. I contacted them and within 24 hours they made room for me at The Veterans Shelter. Since the day I have arrived here I have been treated as family. Then I took another hard hit when my wife and 2 boys ended up homeless. I spoke with Jim and he arranged for my family to move in as well. The shelter and residents have welcome my family and I with open arms. Jim and his staff strives extremely hard to help everyone possible.

I was staying with a family member and do to unhealthy situations I had to leave. I went to a resource center and they referred me to the Mission in Citrus. I was scared and confused but due to the people running the shelter, they helped me get settled into the Veterans shelter. My health was extremely poor and ended up in the hospital. I was able to get healthy and back on my feet again. Since then I have become able body to get around and interact with other people in my same situation. Being here i will be able to accomplish my goals in the near future. My goals include getting a vehicle and my own home, and pray that one day my family and i can resolve the past issues we have been through. I would highly recommend The Mission in Citrus to anyone who needs a place and get their life straight.

The Mission is a big family and has done wonders for me.
I moved to Florida to be closer to my son, my original plans fell through and I needed a place to stay. My son's mother gave me the info for The Mission and i called, They said to come on in. I ma here by the grace of God. i was knocked out and robbed .when i came to,i was disoriented and dizzy and broke. i had the clothes on my back and shoes on my feet ,my lighter and an inactive phone. i was thirsty, starving and had no clue where i was .for the first time in my life i was scared of being out in the woods i am from Tennessee mtns. on my fourth day of being hungry and thirsty i had no where else to turn. i got down on my hands and knees and prayed for a long time .my face was wet with sobbing tears. i asked the lord for his help. about an hour later something told me to check my phone so i did ,by the grace of God i picked up some random free wifi network. i contacted my sister whom i haven't seen or contacted for 18 years .she called the police and deputy Howard came and picked me up and brought me to the mission in citrus. they fed me ,gave me hope a since of security and safety . these beautiful ladies gave me something back that i thought never existed anymore humanity. now i have the opportunity to pay it to forward
The people who run it are wonderful, always willing to help out when you have a problem. They are great with all the residents. While living here I was able to get my CNA license and find a really great job. I was able to save up and get back on my feet thanks to these wonderful people.
