I heard about In-Sync Exotics last year completely by accident. We went for the first time in March 2011 and were astonished by the facility. As we walked around in the cool morning weather, we saw these amazing animals just waking up and starting to move around for the day. We even saw the lady that founded In-Sync go into a cage to encourage one of the enormous white tigers to get up and move into the sun - it was a touching glimpse into how much these formerly abused animals are loved. Our favorite tiger was one called Grumpy who had been so mistreated by his former owners that he could barely walk on his poor twisted feet. In-sync had specially fixed his home so that it had a soft sand floor and a special bed that he could get into and out of easily. We went back in September for my daughter's birthday - she had all her friends donate items that could be used by In-Sync. We were very sad to hear that Grumpy had died a few months before. The last time we were there was right before Christmas in the evening. The animals are much more active late in the day and we got to see many of them running around, happily playing with each other. Reading where many of these animals were before they came to In-Sync is heartbreaking - the before-after pictures are an amazing testament to the miracles that these people accomplish. It is truly a blessing that they can provide a comfortable "last home" for these great beasts. In-Sync has made a lasting impact on our family, especially my 13 year old daughter.
Loved volunteering here, It will be an experience I never forget! The staff was so friendly and professional. They've got great systems for everything they do and the cats seemed to love the one-on-one attention they receive. I think everyone should try and give some time to this awesome place.
I volunteered here for a few weeks and loved every minute of it despite cleaning cages in the cold. Vickey and everybody else involved in this organization love what they are doing and love each and every cat (and coatimundi) at this facility. These cats are at a wonderful forever home.
Eight months ago, Sabu, geriatric lion of 21 years of age, was rehomed from the failed Wild Animal Orphanage to In-Sync Exotics. At the time of his arrival, he could barely walk without falling down. Today, Sabu can actually run and play with his favorite ball (seen at http://www.insyncexotics.blogspot.com/2011/09/great-video-of-sabu-running-and-playing.html). The USDA recommended he be put to sleep because he was too old. In-Sync said "no way, he can live with us!" Thank God Sabu went to In-Sync because for the first time in many, many years he can play on soft grass (at the WAO he lived on hard ground with lots of sharp rocks) chasing after his favorite ball. After everything that happened to him at the WAO, this lion truly deserved a second chance at happiness and I am thrilled he was "adopted" by In-Sync!
Not only did they take in a geriatric lion, but they also took in a geriatric tiger from the WAO--Okemo! Okemo was the last single tiger living at WAO's Talley Road property in the small quartine area. No one wanted this aging shy tiger. Thankfully, again, In-Sync stepped up to the plate and said "we will take him too!"
And…they took in “Growing Up Lion” Animal Planet TV lioness, Jynxie who also used to reside at the WAO. Shortly after her arrival, In-Sync discovered she had cancer. If she had not relocated to In-Sync when she did, she may have died from the cancerous tumor. In-Sync provides top-notch health care for its cats—it’s no wonder Global Federation Animal Sanctuaries’ director declared ‘The veterinary care at In-Sync is beyond great!’ http://insyncexotics.blogspot.com/2011/12/veterinary-care-at-in-sync-is-beyond.html
Please support In-Sync Exotics so they can continue providing a home and medical care to senior and geriatric big cats. No big cat should be destroyed just because he is old…
I have been visiting In-Sync Exotics regularly for about 8 years. I love coming back and watching the new arrivals, many of whom are extremely ill or cannot even walk when they arrive, become happy, healthy, playful cats. Every time I visit, I learn something new about big cats. I love watching them get their enrichment, and seeing the joy that they express at the attention they receive from the volunteers. Talking to the volunteers, I can really feel how passionate they are about the animals in their care. The facility is always immaculate, and they are always making improvements to the sanctuary.
I have been visiting In-Sync for about 8 years, and am continually amazed! I've seen cats arrive that others have given up on, that aren't expected to live, or that have serious physical disabilities. Then I'll come back a few months later, and the cats are unrecognizable! They are happy, playing, and the love they receive definitely shows! The volunteers are so obviously dedicated to giving each cat the absolute best life that they can. The facility is always immaculately clean, the enclosures are large, the tigers all have access to large pools with waterfalls, and the other cats each have what they need. In addition to visiting regularly, I have also volunteered to build many of the concrete den areas for the cats, and I can testify that Vicky (who runs In-Sync) wants ONLY the best for her cats!
I have been associated with InSync as a donor and volunteer for many years. I have seen first-hand how the animals are nurtured, nursed back to good health, and loved. The dedication by the entire staff, and especially by Vicki Keahy, is amazing. The premises are spotlessly clean, being maintained 24 hours a day. There are large, natural habitats for the animals' exercise, and the enclosures are safe to the public. There is a high degree of education, teaching people and especially children, to respect wildlife.
I visit InSync Exotics frequently. I have witnessed sick animals become healthy, lame animals become playful, and shy animals become loving--all because the staff and volunteers at InSync have dedicated their lives to caring for these large cats. They have built enclosures, waterfalls, and pools with their own hands. They have multiple events every year, not just to raise funds, but also to teach the public about the majesty of the animals and the necessity to treat them kindly and with dignity. The facility is managed in a professional and humane manner, and yet Vicki Keahy and her staff always find time to talk to the public about their "babies". InSync Exotics is an inspiration to anyone who loves and respects wildlife.
My husband and I went to visit for the first time this weekend. We were blown away! The quality of the facility is awesome. You can tell they put a lot of effort into keeping the enclosures clean and the cats happy. I am super-sensitive to animals being treated well. I hate little roadside zoo attractions, petting zoos, etc. for that very reason. In-sync was a wonderful experience though and being able to see the animals up close and personal (but still feel very safe with a double gate system (all in concrete)) was the cherry on top. The cats are magnificent! I love how you get to learn a little about each one and how they came to In-Sync as well as some of their personality traits. We also talked to some of the volunteers as we meandered around the property and they were all super-friendly, obviously loved what they were doing and you could just see the adoration they had for the cats. What a wonderful experiance!
I would recommend anyone going for a visit. Young/old, animal lover/nature lover, whatever your cup of tea, you won't be disappointed. I can't wait to go back!
e.t.a. Here are some pics my husband took while we were there. Those are some happy cats!
After reviewing In-Sync's reviews by all those who love and support them; the rating by another reviewer and Ms. Keahey's comments peeked my interest so after a google search and reading their website:
Concerned that there is only one Key Staff member besides Ms. Keahey to care and manage all their cats. There is a probability that they are over dependent on volunteers to fill these voids in their staff. No offense to those dedicated volunteers; but as a business/organization it is important to have adequate staffing. Volunteers cannot always be there when needed and the number of volunteers fluctuates and/or diminishes over time or is seasonal. (For those who volunteer you are wonderful and please do not take offense to this review) It is also about safety and having staff experienced staff on the premises at all times.
After 20 years in owning, operating and managing horse facilities . I am very much aware how labor intensive and expensive it is in operating any animal facility; as well as maintaining and hiring staff who have credentials needed to perform animal husbandry and their training combined with their work experiences meet the standards of my facilities.
I have to give them a middle of the road review based on my concerns.
Google search is a very powerful tool: http://www.rexano.org/REPO_Tigers.htm
I live in New Braunfels and have only visited Insync once this year so far and I was really impressed with the sanctuary, staff, and the numerous volunteers I saw caring for the animals.
I first became aware of Insync when it was announced on the news that Jinxie, from the WAO, moved to Insync. Since then I followed the arrival of Sabu and now at tiger named Okemo. As a former supporter of the WAO, I am glad to know that some of the animals remained in Texas. During my visit this year, I saw both Sabu and Jinxie. Sabu was having trouble walking when I was there, falling down every few steps. I have now seen the video on their site showing him running...amazing!
I plan to go out again next year to see how all the animals are doing, one year later. In the meantime, if you want to see how legit this place is, take a look at their website, blog, and tax returns--complete transparency--you can see where the money is going. For me, that's what is important--donations going towards animal care and not into the pockets of the board, staff, or family members. Keep up the great work, Insync!
I had been very disappointed by the attitude of their staff while visiting this facility as well as the lack of recognition for donations made for their cause.
Dear PaintGal: I am saddened that your last visit to In-Sync Exotics (August 2011) did not meet your expectations. In-Sync Exotics is primarily staffed by volunteers and so it will be difficult to ascertain what transpired during your last visit. However, I want you to know I will address this issue with board, staff, and volunteers to ensure that we provide the best customer service to our visitors and donors alike. You are right, it isn't the size of the donation that counts—it’s people like you who contribute towards the care of over 60 exotic wild animals that matters to us. I think I speak for all of us by saying we would love to have you come out and visit the animals again--perhaps when the weather is a little cooler! If you would like to speak with me regarding your concerns, you are more than welcome to contact me at (972) 442-6888. Thank you! Regards, Vickey Keahey CEO & President of In-Sync Exotics
I was blessed enough to be a summer intern at In-Sync Exotics. As an intern, I got the opportunity to visit other sanctuaries in the area and none of them could touch In-Sync. All of In-Sync's funds go directly to the well-being of the cats. These cats are treated like royalty--like they should be. They are the best taken care of animals I've ever seen. In-Sync can take an animal on its deathbed and bring it back to great health in no time. This is a wonderful facility with wonderful people and amazing animals. I would give them all the money in the world if I could.
I LOVE IN-SYNC EXOTICS!!! I enjoy each and every time I visit these Big Cats in Wylie, TX. The goal of the organization is to rescue mistreated and/or displaced cats and provide them with a lifetime of care. According to their website, it costs $100,000 a year to feed the animals, and another $15,000 for veterinarian care. They also have added expenses for utilities, enrichment, equipment, and supplies. These are definitely great people doing great things!
This is a wonderful place to visit! All donations are used to feed and care for the cats. My visit was fun and educational! I have a great deal of respect for all of the individuals who help to care for these animals.
This is a small wonderful non profit that seems to rescue the big cats that few others can and do. I was impressed with the hard working people who run In-Sync. The tours they offer are wonderful, you even get the opportunity to be there when the cats get their dinner and what a treat that was for them and myself. This group doesn't flood your mailbox with mailers that cost big dollars, but only when the need is great and they have some good news to share or need to express.
I've been a volunteer at In-Sync Exotics for over six years and consider myself truly blessed to be a part of such a loving, caring and devoted family. I have personally witnessed the horrendous condition in which some of the cats arrive at In-Sync, and I've cried knowing the suffering they have endured at others' hands - starvation, abuse, neglect.... But I've also cried tears of joy at watching how quickly they improve, how with medical care, nutritious food, clean living conditions, room to run and play and lots and lots of love, they transform into the beautiful, dignified and magnificent creatures they were meant to be. Sadly, the food, medical care and materials to build the enclosures and play areas are not free, and we need the help of caring people to provide the donations which allow us to continue caring for those cats who are already a part of our family and to save others who desperately need our help.
I had the pleasure of visiting In-Sync Exotics a few months ago with my 3 year old daughter and 6 year old nephew. What an incredible way to educate children on the reality of what can happen when people selfishly obtain exotic animals and the appreciate the rescue groups who selflessly care for them when they are abandoned or unwanted.
Keep up the great work In-Sync!
I had a wonderful experience last Easter at In-Sync. My Nieces and their small grand kids came to hunt the eggs, and prizes, but the expressions on their faces, as well as the adults can not be beat.
We had a wonderful time watching the interaction of the cats. Their beauty and grace is breath taking.
This is a perfect place for these beautiful creatures. They all seem so happy and healthy.
It takes a great deal of lov , money and dedication to save God's Large creatures.
I hope In-Sync can continue forever. Jackie Ellis
I have volunteered at other sanctuaries and have visited several, and I can say that the care and love these animals receive is outstanding. If it's humanly possible, the staff and volunteers will do whatever they can to improve the lives of these beautiful animals.
The enclosures are always spotless, all cats get playtime, diets are based on their individual needs, and veterinary care is always evident. All cats have toys and/or enrichment items and receive a lot of TLC from the volunteers.
My love of Big Cats brought me to In-Sync for the first time, and I have been going back ever since. The cats have come from unimaginable circumstances and conditions, but have now found their forever home at In-Sync. The peace and joy in their eyes that has likely never been there before is heart warming. What a wonderful place.
Visiting In-Sync Exotics in Wylie, TX is an experience that I will not forget. Seeing the beauty of these magnificent cats up close, and learning of the conditions from which they came, was extremely moving. The volunteers working for this organization are wonderful and caring individuals who are making a real difference in the lives of these animals.
In-Sync exotics has changed my life drastically. To witness and experience such love and compassion for these magnificent animals cannot go unnoticed. In-Sync Exotic staff work day and night to make sure that their residents are safe, healthy, and most importantly happy. Every cat that comes into In-Sync exotics is so fortunate because it will receive, guaranteed, the best care available. These cats are not treated like "pets", or "zoo animals", these residents are treated like they are part of the family and In-Sync does an incredible job at doing so. The amount of learning opportunities and social events are absolutely wonderful and open to the public. I am happy to say I was part of this spectacular organization and to say it has been my most favorite experience.
-Valley Girl :)
The cats at in-sync are so well taken care of and so happy, its a beautiful thing to see. The people there really care about them, as if they were their own children and they are treated as such. I love this place.
After many months of thinking about visiting In-Sync, my wife and I did so when her sister came to see us from MN. It was the highlight of her trip here. Since then I have been made aware of the unselfish attitude of Vicky and her volunteers who have said "yes" to the need to help rescue many other big cats from abysmal living conditions, even though it puts a heavy strain on their resources. I am happy to have been a subsequent contributor to their funds to further their work of saving these magnificent animals from circumstances of misery and dark futures.
What a joy to see all of these beautiful cats feeling so good after what they have been through. You could feel the love all of the staff has for each one. Everything was so clean.
We took a senior group that we belong to out to In-sync. Everyone was thrilled to see all the lion, tiger, etc. so close. They all said lets go again.
We told all of our friends with kids, this is the place to go.
I have visted In-Sync many times through the years, and am always impressed at the level of care that the animals receive. The enclosures are roomy, clean and filled with enrichment and toys. The animals are all well fed and receive top medical care. It's obvious just by watching the volunteers and staff how much each cat is loved, and if you spend any time speaking to the volunteers and staff, it comes through even more. They are truly dedicated to ensuring that each animal in their care has their individual needs met, and exceeded. I have also assisted with some construction projects from time to time throughout the years.
The animals at In-Sync Exotics are magnificent. To see their beauty in person is an experience that everyone should pursue. Behind each set of eyes is a story of abuse or rejection however, In-Sync Exotics noticed their pain and said to themselves, we can love them and give them the respect they deserve. In showing their love and respect for these fabulous individuals they provided shaded pens where appropriate and going the extra mile - air conditioned living quarters for others.
I have been a volunteer at InSync for 2 years now, and every time I go I always experience something new. When a tiger chooses you to chuff (big cat version of purr) at, when the young ones want to play hide-and-seek, or when the older ones show affection towards each other. It's so heart warming knowing that these cats, who have been abused for so long, finally have a place where they are no longer living to entertain others. They are finally in a place they can truly call home.
This is absolutely the best place in the world! The big cats are so well cared for it shows all around.
So far, I've visited In-Sync Exotics a handful of times and every time its been a moving experience. I highly recommend bringing the family. All of these beautfiul creatures have a story. What is known, is posted on the enclosures for all to see. Unfortunately, most have had a really rough start in life. It's so hard to comprehend how someone could willingly treat another living creature so poorly. That is why I am so impressed by facilities at In-Sync, and expecially by all the volunteers who have dedicated their lives to rescuing and providing long-term care for these animals. I will always hold them in high regard, and in my eyes they are TRUE HEROS. I've discovered that it takes more than putting them in a safe environment, feeding them, and cleaning out their enclosures everyday. It's mending the wounds, both physically and mentally. Healing a broken spirit, regaining trust and sense of security. What a task indeed. To heal the body is far easier, than to heal the mind or spirit. That takes time. In-Sync is definately up for the challenge, and they are in it for the long haul. To see so many animals who have recovered or are recovering, is a true testament to the animal spirit and the dedication of those who love them. Keep up the great work In-Sync. ~ Lisa Simpson from Garland, TX.
I volunteered at In-Sync a few years ago and helped feed, clean and build some lion cages. What a wonderful place to visit and to volunteer! There is nowhere like this anywhere around. The zoo doesn't even compare as big Cats go! Really great place to bring the kids or go for an interesting date. The cats are always active and playful and really seem happy to be where they are. It is amazing the work Vicki and the staff have done there to save these wonderful Cat's lives. Some really amazing rescue stories here You can certainly see the thankfulness and bonds these cats have with the owner and staff!!
I have been in and out of In sync for quite some time now, I have watched them grow physically in size, as well as in their message and in their cause. I have volunteered quiet a lot of places but never found an organization as dedicated or pure. It really is all about the cats. The mistreatment of some of the world’s most beautiful large predators is a problem that is so overlooked and it is sad. They are the stuff of legends, of worship and myth but more than that they are creatures that live, breath and feel. We raise them, inbreed them, miss treat them and leave them to die for our own images, for money and out of twisted pride. In sync saves them, heals them and gives them a place to live out the rest of their lives in peace and comfort. All while educating the public on this huge and obscure problem and fighting for the rights of exotic animals in the U.S. The abuse we are legally allowing people to get away with is unfair. It has to stop and we have to make it stop.
I started volunteering at In-Sync two summers ago. In the time I've been a volunteer, I have seen cats arrive at the sanctuary with a range of medical and emotional injuries. I have seen these cats' health improve drastically: those that could not walk are walking, and those that were terrified and angry and lonely are being loved and loving in return. I am so grateful to every one of our volunteers and I feel so lucky to be able to make a difference in the lives of these cats. We strive to provide the best care possible, and it's evident that we do judging by the relaxed and happy demeanor of every cat on the property.
My family has visits In-Sync Exotics. Their cats and other animals are well taken care of. Reading the stories of the animals' prior lives is heartbreaking. It's wonderful they can live out the rest of their lives well taken care of and loved. I definitely recommend visiting and supporting them!
The facility is very well kept and organized. The volunteers are extremely helpful and informative. Definitely a very worthy cause and if I lived closer I'd want to volunteer there.
They do marvelous things with the animals. Time and patience and lots of money are needed and they do it all
The dedication of the officers and staff of In-Sync are amazing. I started as an ordinary volunteer and have seen the dedication of all who volunteer and work at In-Sync. Much personal sacrifice on their part helps to insure that as many of the magnificent creatures subject to abysmal conditions are rescued.
My family and I have been to in-sync on many occasions. This is such a fun learning place for kids especially to see how animals (like their personal cats and dogs) should be taken care of. The volunteers pour theirselves into cleaning, feeding and training these amazing animals and you can clearly see how they love the volunteers bc of it. There is so much room for the cats to explore and play and they look pretty darn healthy. I recommend that everyone go at least once and check it out....you will learn all kinds of things! The most important one being....DONT RAISE YOUR OWN EXOTIC CATS!
Wonderful facility! So glad they are willing to take on the responsibility of caring for these beautiful big cats. Unfortunately, our state laws allow for the ownership of wild cats, which require much more experience, money, and time than most individuals are willing to give. In-Sync Exotics has stepped in to rescue these poor animals, bringing them back to health, and educate the public about their plight.
I live in Poetry and for 15 years and have enjoyed asking our visitors to "listen to the lions roar" , they have been one of the joys of living in the country. Recently one of our neighbors told us that the lions had been abandoned and were in grave trouble. We were overjoyed to learn that our lions had been rescued by In-Sync and given safe new homes.
I have recently started as a volunteer for In-Sync, and have learned a lot! As a future Zoologist, I am lucky to gain the experience and knowledge from such a great team of people. Everyone there loves all of the cats and are dedicated to providing a safe and healthy home for them. In-Sync rescues exotic cats that have been mistreated or takes in cats that have no where to go. I am glad to be a member of such a compassionate group of people who are making a difference in the lives of all of the cats they come in contact with.
There are not enough words to describe how truly amazing In-Sync Exotics is. There isn't anything we wouldn't do for the cats to keep them happy and healthy. There are no limits to making them better when they are sick, they're big and little tummies never go empty, they get 100 times more love and affection than they have ever known. The love and devotion that the president, staff, volunteers and donors have for the cats and nugget is truly remarkable. The cats have everything they could ever need and want.
Oh my gosh where do I begin..i have known Vicky with In-Sync for 35 years and have never known anyone with more passion! Her entire life is devoted to the care and rescue of these majestic animals. Along with her dedicated volunteers, she has literally made the difference between life and death for these animals. So much of her life has been given up for the care of these cats. Although she doesn't see it that way, they are her life and she was put on this earth to save them, by God. Anyone who knows her and In-Sync, Loves and respects what she (In-Sync) stands for.
I have watched In-sync and I am so impressed with what they do for the big cats that they have given a home to. The people of In-sync give so much to the animals that they take in, those animals they help many comimg to them in such horriable conditions . It is so great to see updates and video of those animals improving so much> thank you In-sync.
I have seen for myself the wonderful work performed by Insync Exotics. The animals look healthy and happy. The workers and volunteers seem very happy to be there--it's obvious this is more than just a "job" for them! And I was tickled pink to see that they have volunteers that come in and just spend quality time with the animals by either reading to them, talking to them, jor playing soothing music for their enjoyment. I have never heard of any other place that provides this tykpe of special one-on-one care for its animals! What a great place! I would recommend this sanctuary to anyone wishing to make a donation or just to come out and visit the animals!
There are no words to express the impact that volunteering at InSync has had on my life. The connection with the resident animals and our opportunity to give them love and compassion is a blessing. I have been volunteering as much as I can for the past three years and each time I find solace in the care these animals receive.
Thank you Vicky and others for giving your life to take on any challenges.
I visited the facility one hot summer day and very much enjoyed seeing that some formerly unwanted, neglected exotic cats had found a good home. Observing both younger & older volunteers caring for the animals, you could sense the love they feel for the cats. I also appreciated the opportunity to get a closer look than you would normally experience at a zoo. I don't live in the area, but look forward to visiting the sanctuary again sometime in the near future.
This is one of the greatest places on earth, the people at insync are the best. They take care of the most beautiful big cats in the world, I have been to several so called sanctuaries and none stack up to insync exotics. If you ever want to give to those who give back, then this is one place you should give what ever you can.
My family in Ashtabula, OHIO absolutely LOVES In-Sync Exotics. We go through their pictures daily looking for updates on our favorite tigers and cougars. My children are learning how to conserve and take care of a scarce population of big cats through these pictures. I have personally visited the rescue and am in love with the staff, the big cats and how they take care of each other and the rescues. They have the utmost respect for the life these cats have lead up to their relocation. They make sure the guests visiting the cats are respectful, kind, humane and considerate. They take the time to educate the public and each other. Their should be more rescues like this, to help educate and service wildlife. THANK YOU IN-SYNC!!!!!!
In-Sync is a wonderful and caring place for the BIG cats to live, play and
interact with other Kitties. They are all rescued from horrible conditions
and I know they appreciate all that we do for them. They Chuff! That's a
good thing. I volunteer for those special events and am now signed up
to take on more responsibilities, like cleaning cages, and maybe some
day train to feed. Vickie and all the volunteers here have one goal, to care
for these cats. Since this is a non-profit organization, we always need
outside support. After reading this, please come out to see us.
What a wonderful place for both the big cats and the volumteers. I love that the welfare and comfort of the animal is of the utmost importance at In-Sync Exotics. What a great place!!!
I love In-Sync! They take such great care of all their rescued cats. In the 4 years I've been a regular visitor, I have been horrified at the condition of some of the cats when they arrive, after being confiscated from abusive owners. It's truly shocking what some people can do to animals. But, then, the magic at In-Sync happens! The cats learn that people can be loving, not cruel, that they will always get the best food, best medical care, best enclosures, enrichment, social interaction, and TONS of love! They blossom under the care they get at In-Sync, and the volunteers always seem so dedicated to these beautiful animals. I LOVE watching the enrichment demonstrations on Saturdays, when the cats get all their goodies! I wish I could join the volunteer team, but my work and family obligations simply don't allow that at this time, so for now I'll just keep vising as often as possible. I also follow the cats on Facebook, and love all the updates, pictures and videos.
I have been visiting In-Sync for about 6 years, and love watching the progress of the cats! Watching them get happy and healthy, and flourish under the love they receive there, is so rewarding. All the volunteers are helpful and answer all my questions, and always seem to genuinely love their big furry charges! I also love following the cats' photos and stories on Facebook and the blog, I feel like I know what's going on even if I can't get there as often as I would love to.
I have been visiting InSync for going on 4 years now. It is the best place. They really love and take care of the big cats!
I first became aware of Insync Exotics when Sabu was moved from San Antonio to Wylie, Texas. I've been following the WAO case for many years and I am pleased the 2 WAO lions and 1 tiger found a new home with this facility. I love the animal reports on the blog--especially the report on Sabu as he is making great progress in his ability to not only walk, but run again! It is obvious that the staff cares about these animals very much -- you guys, rock!
In-Sync Exotics has helped so many abused, neglected cats. The recent rescue in Poetry, TX is but one example of the tireless effort Vicky and all the staff & volunteers put into every aspect of the sanctuary. The cats have playgrounds and pools and toys and large enclosures. No more teeny tiny cages for those babies.....and that's what they are.....Vicky's babies!
I had worked with exotic cats for many years, but after retiring I missed them. I went to see several facilities in the area. Then I heard of In-sync Exotics and went for a visit. Eight years later I'm still there. In-Sync was created to rescue abandoned or abused exotic cats or those the owner could no longer care for. In my opinion it is what a sanctuary should be, a true safe haven for an animal to live the rest of its life at peace in a natural setting among huge trees and grass.
The Founder and president, Vicky Keahey, lives on the property and works over 12 hours every day for the cats. There are about 100 volunteers on the roster and Vicky will never ask anyone to do anything she wouldn't do or hasn't done herself. She makes sure each cat gets the healthiest diet possible, a huge habitat that is cleaned daily, swimming pools for the cats that enjoy water, enrichment activities for stimulation and the very best in medical care. She has even taken cats hundreds of miles to a vet specialists when treatment was not available locally. Vicky gives 100% of herself every day.
During the past eight years over 50 animals have been rescued and nine new habitats have been built. All done by the love of volunteers and the kindness of donors.
Five years ago a cat training program was started so medical procedures could be performed without having to use anesthesia. I have had the privilege of training three of our tigers.
As a caretaker and trainer at In-Sync the bond I've made with the cats has truly been a reward far greater than the work I've given.
Sometimes people make foolish choices, one being they want a wild animal as a pet! They take on this Illegal endevor not knowing the proper diet, or care for this creature. Sometimes these foolish choices cause the life of the animal, unless the animal is fortunate enough to make its way to In-Sync. There said animal will get the proper care and diet for the remainder of it's life. The volunteers are trained and watched carefully by the staff. It is a safe and healthy environment, that I wish I had more time to be a part of!
Every time my family and I have visited In-Sync, we have found all of the volunteers to be extremely helpful, kind and knowledgeable. The animals are in very nice habitats with clean water and plenty of toys- you can really tell that the people of In-Sync take an active role in making sure the residents, both big and small, have as interesting and enjoyable a life as possible. I simply cannot recommend this place enough!
I recently became a volunteer at In-Sync Exotics and it has already been an incredible experience! Everytime I am there I am more impressed at how well the animals are taken care of, how clean the facility is, how happy the animals are, etc...
Everyone I have met at In-Sync is dedicated to helping the cats and making sure they have a wonderful life. It is amazing to see cats when they first arrive and how they are just a short time later. They go from scared, hungry and sick to happy healthy cats.
I also love the fact that they are family friendly, my kids love to go there. They have several events each year (on and off site) that help educate the public and get more people involved in helping bring animal cruelty to light.
I was introduced to InSync by a co-worker and friend. I am so proud of the work they do. From a selffish perspective, nothing brings me more joy than receiving a video clip of one of their babies playing in the water, playing with one another and enjoying life! Of course, there are emails with sad stories as well about those who lost a fight to cancer, etc., but the team at InSync does everything they possibly can to make for a happy and healthy environment. I donate to 2 organizations, InSync and ASPCA. I sometimes feel guilty that my donations only go to animals, but they are the only creatures who give unconditional love and can't always help themselves.
When Sabu and Jynxie, two former WAO lions went to In-Sync Exotics, I wanted to learn as much as I could about this organization. I reviewed their 990s (Organizations Tax Returns), reviews, and visited their website, Facebook page, Twitter, and blog. I was astounded with all the information that is available to the public! The 990's clearly showed donations went towards animal care. The stories on the blog and Facebook were very interesting. But most importantly, I saw the BEST video of Sabu, who when he left the WAO could barely walk without falling down after taking a few steps, RUN after a ball! He looked like he was having so much fun! Thank God he went to Insync Exotics. They obviously care about their animals and they take the time to heal animals with serious disabilities, no matter how old they may be. Because of In-Sync, two older lions, Sabu and Jynxie, have a second chance at a really good life. In-Sync also accepted a tiger from the WAO just last week - Okemo - who lived alone for most of adult life at the now closed WAO. Finally, Okemo will be around a lot of people and animals -- so he will never be "alone" again! Thank you very much, Insync for taking in three of the WAO animals, and giving them a chance to love life again!
I've been volunteering at InSync for over 4 years and a Board member for 2 years. InSync is a wonderful place! The owner Vicky, our Lead Keeper Mak, Board members and ALL the volunteers are the best to work. Everyone takes their duties seriously in making InSync home for these magnificient cats. The cats receive excellent care and LOTS of love!
