Mission: The womens resource centers mission is to improve womens workplace and economic opportunities.
Programs: New beginning program womens resource center implemented the new beginnings program in october 2012. The program is offered to women who are inmates at the kent county jail. Wrcs mentoring services will be offered pre-release and up to 18 months post release. Our services include one-on-one and/or group mentoring to provide pro-social support by a caring female adult, employability assessments coupled with individualized employment development plans, employability and life skills workshops, job placement and retention assistance, and strength-based case management services to connect returning women with collaborative community partners that provide substance abuse and mental health treatment, education/training, housing and basic needs, and other services critical to their successful community reentry. This program is primarily funded by a two-year federal grant from the dept. Of justice second chance act. Employment case manager will manage a caseload of 65 participants and one mentor coordinator will recruit, train, and manage 75 volunteers over the length of the program.
working womens clothes closet - an integral program of the womens resouce center that provides a source of good quality clothing for women who aspire to be employed outside the home and cannot afford to buy the clothing and accessories necessary for job interviews or to re-enter the workforce. The working womens clothes closet receives donations of new and used clothing from individuals, centers, clothing drives, and area retail stores.
the empower program is designed for low income single mothers with minor children. A career coach will assist in developing a plan to meet the clients long and short term goals. Together they can address the unique challenges of being a single mom. They will explore employment or education/training opportunities. Clients will take action to meet their employment goals to become self-sufficient.
