Women's Recovery Center of Tampa Bay, Inc. (WRCTB) is a program designed to assist individual women plus moms & kids in changing destructive lifestyles. As a temporary shelter, many come & go, but those who want change in their lives tend to stay longer.
Many of the program participants have been victims of domestic violence @ one time or another, victims of homelessness and/or chronic addiction. WRCTB is a safe place to re-group, be nourished and educated. Children are warmly welcomed by staff to a temporary, non-threatening living environment.
Many served by WRCTB have been raised in homes where dysfunctional chaos is a "way of life". A new approach to life is taught beginning with respect for themselves , their families & others.
WRCTB is NOT a free place to live IF a woman has income. There is a sliding scale program fee in keeping with "a hand up; NOT a hand out". However, if a woman has no money but truly wants change and is willing to follow another's direction, she is encouraged to stay to partake of the program.
WRCTB is supported by community donations, program fees & revenue from 3 part-time businesses where the women work while in the program. There is an indoor flea market plus an auction house sponsor where participants work to generate revenue for the Center. Also, a coffee house is being utilized on Saturday evenings to help bring in monies and @ the same time teach entrepreneur ship. All staff are volunteer.
WRCTB is NOT to be confused with a domestic violence shelter. WRCTB does NOT take in those where there is danger, however, they ARE assisted, if needed & wanted, to get to safety.
