Programs: Continued working to open birth center in uruguay. Due to political considerations, we have had to relocate the site to a smaller community outside of montevideo. During a regular site visit, final arrangements and signings were to be processed to open; the day prior to the official meeting, the project was postponed by the ministry of health and other collaborators. The new projected opening date is spring or early summer of 2011.
sally clinic/joseph mukasa health center in mwanyangiri, uganda was unexpected closed to our programs due to political situations in uganda. The closing was sudden. We are continuing to provide support for several students attending the local school, but support of the clinic has been suspended.
during the site visit to uruguay, we were able to also contact and visit with several sites and midwives in argentina. They are willing to take students and to work on collaboration of another ww project in their area. We are in the process of setting up student stays in the area.
we are currently collaborating with a group of mayan midwives in mexico to teach their techiniques to midwives in the us. The first course is scheduled for december of 2011.
