This Charity seems to be always working and everywhere I look. I see them at prestigious venues (Perot Center, Bunker Sands Wetlands Center, Dallas Arboretum, not to mention schools and show s all across Dallas and Ft. Worth. They do a great job of bring these elusive but delicate creatures within range of us normal humans to get a glimpse of and understand a bit more. They know their stuff. I am glad to have them in our city and believe they serve a great purpose. ElRay Mac
Simon and Lindsey have a positive re-enforcement method that works not only when training their birds but also when training their dog, cats, goats and yes...two tortoises!
What they do is recognise why a bird, for example, is mildly aggressive, for one reason or another connected to its past, when it lands on the ground. They modify their training method to encourage the bird to fly from elevated surfaces to their outstretched hands, knowing it acts out when it is asked to work from the ground. This way the bird can demonstrate its skill at catching grapes in mid-air, without landing on the ground.
Their philosophy is to encourage their audiences to tap into an animal's natural behaviour and reward it.
They teach people to determine why a beloved pet may begin to pee on the carpet, or a cat stops using its litter box, rather than just punishing it . This method is based on love and respect and naturally segues into the rearing of children.
With two girls of their own Lindsey and Simon emphasise the art of re-direction instead of reprimand and watching them all work together is proof positive that their methods work.
You can see them in action around the Dallas Metroplex area and on YouTube and facebook where they post informative shorts that are educational and entertaining.
We've done "trainer for a day" experiences multiple times and we always have a wonderful time and learn so much. Simon and Lindsey have so many great stories and are so knowledgeable and passionate about sharing their love of nature.
Window to The Wild is a wonderful company that has an incredible array of birds from all over the world that people would never have the chance to see up close. Their trainer for a day program is such a cool way to learn how to feed and train birds. And the skills you learn can definitely be taken home for pets, and even kiddos to a certain extent. They’re great!!
Window to the Wild is a wonderful non profit. The education shows they put on are so informative and captivating. Their trainer for a day experience is truly unique and gives a great glimpse into their lives.
Window to the Wild provides an incredible experience giving you a personal connection to wildlife. They are a family-friendly non-profit and I absolutely recommend them to anyone who wants to learn about wildlife in a fun and engaging way!
Window to the Wild does such a great job of engaging their audience during shows and their trainer programs. As a person who has helped volunteer, donated, and participated in their shows as a consumer they are a well run nonprofit. They put the animals and education to their consumers front and center. I will always recommend them as a great nonprofit to see live and to volunteer time to help them.
