Mission: The willie ross school for the deaf provides a comprehensive educational program stressing academic excellence that focuses on the development of students' intellectual, social, and emotional growth. The school fosters appreciation of the dignity of every individual and acceptance of the many cultures within our society. Willie ross school offers a program which encourages the development of the necessary combination of academic strengths, social skills and general preparation for successful participation in society upon the completion of students' studies. The goal is accomplished through the dual-campus model, which offers an immersion approach (deaf students learning together) and inclusion (academic and community mainstreaming of deaf and hearing students learning together).
Programs: The organization runs a day program to educate deaf students ages 2. 9 through 22 years of age. The educational program is housed on two campuses. A center-based campus located in longmeadow and an embedded campus located in the east longmeadow public schools. The embedded campus serves elementary through secondary. A comprehensive academic program is offered leading to a high school diploma. Vocational programming is also available. The goal is for all graduates to go on to college or employment.
the organization offers a range of services for non-willie ross school students in western massachusetts from infant to adult. Services include audiological, educational, diagnostic, and sign language classes. The division also offers a team to work with infants and toddlers who have a hearing loss. Programs and services include home visits and audiological services.
