Causes: Children & Youth, Children & Youth Services
Mission: Supports the development, growth and continuation of child advocacy centers and multi-disciplinary teams so that west virginia communities can better serve children and families when concerns of child abuse arise.
Programs: Wvcans efforts are in four primary areas 1 promoting and expanding the cac model to all children in west virginia 2 leading innovation in the field of child maltreatment 3 creating healthy, sustainable organizations, and 4 enhancing outcome measurement to foster depth of service. Wvcans professional development programs impact a wide variety of professionals in the child protection system. This year, wvcan hosted forensic interview peer reviews,family advocacy trainings, in-depth individualized data analysis and an annual conference in addition to providing serveral other training offerings on a customized basis for different groups. In addition, wvcan frequently responds to community requests for individualized trainings that enhance their work with child victims of abuse. To this end, wvcan customizes strategic planning, team development trainings, and individualized service offerings.
