Programs: North valley health center (nvhc) is a 12-bed acute care health center located in warren, mn. Our major program service is to provide quality medical services that are accessible to all communities we service. Included in the program services are inpatient and swing bed care, a full-time emergency room, various outpatient services, and family practice clinic where care is provided regardless of a patient's ability to pay for the services provided. North valley health center also provides public health services for marshall county. Nvhc's new replacement hospital and clinic has improved operating efficiencies and the overall patient experience. During 2014, north valley health center's acute care health center experienced a slight increase in patient days. Acute inpatient days decreased 176 days and acute swing-bed days increased 222 days for a total increase of 46 days. Our full-time emergency room provided care to 1,233 patients, which was an increase of 119 patients over the prior year. Within the rural health clinic, nvhc operated with a physician, two physician assistants, and a nurse practitioner experiencing a decrease in clinic visits from the prior year. Our family practice clinic saw 7,050 patients in 2014 compared to 7,349 patients in 2013. In 2014, north valley health center provided $47,172 worth of charity care based on established rates of charges foregone. Total direct and indirect costs related to these foregone charges was approximately $44,000 based on an average of ratios of cost to gross charges. Nvhc continues to work on the strategic plan established in 2013 which determined three goals to help the facility accomplish our mission and vision statements:goal 1 - serve more patients by retaining staff, attracting new medical providers, adding new services, and improving marketing efforts. Goal 2 - improve healthcare services and operations by engaging culture change, owning quality improvement, and strengthening process improvement. Goal 3 - improve health and wellness in the community and region by broadening ownership of individual health, engaging population health, and leading community health efforts.
