Programs: The vista school provides an academic and social skills learning environment that engages parents and children in meeting individual student needs in a structured setting. Our staff includes credentialed teachers, accredited instructors, behavioral specialists and clinicians. vista del mar's outpatient division provides a wide range of counseling services. Help is available through child and family counseling services (family and individual therapy, trauma recovery program); a wide variety of classes and workshops for parents and caregivers; and psychological assessment services for children and adolescents. The agency also offers supervised training programs for mental health and child development students and professionals, including internships, postgraduate and post doctoral fellowships, and the graduate center which offers a ph. D. /psy. D. Program in clinical child/adolescent psychology.
vista del mar's community based services provide a broad spectrum of services for children, adolescents, young adults and families. The agency, state-licensed and council on accreditation accredited, places more than 150 adopted children each year. Vista also evaluates, selects, and monitors qualified foster care parents for children up to 18 years of age. Prevention and early intervention services are offered through our parent and teacher counseling and education programs at many los angeles and santa monica-malibu unified school district schools, and teen parent support programs are provided at local high schools. Vista Del Mar(VDM) bills themselves as an amazing school and destination to help families in need. All that is good unless of course you have Down Syndrome (DS). While looking for a school for our 7 year old Son who is diagnosed with DS we come to find out that VDM has stopped admitting individuals with DS over 4 years ago. We find this discriminatory and after repeated calls and emails to senior management and board at VDM have gone unanswered.
