Mission: Restore sight to the blind poor in remote regions of the world; connecting eye care professionals around the world.
Programs: Surgical mission teams travel to remote areas of the world to perform various eye surgeries. Teams evaluated patients, removed cataracts, and taught staff ophthalmic procedures. 424 surgeries were performed as well as 674 eye exams.
the global sight alliance is formed with the purpose of centralizing education and communication about the fight against cataract blindness including some of the following: -volunteer opportunities - similar to the current missioneyes. Net search function which can match volunteers with organizations looking for help -evidence based studies -blogs and reports from doctors on the front lines -resources for planning support trips -educational libraries -links to pertinent agencies and other organization's websites -discussion groups 15 mission agencies posted needs through the mission eyes network and approximately 1,004 contacts received the network newsletter.
