I was a member of the USGA for a decade until I did some research. They have incredible financial resources, pay their executives up to 1.5 million a year and a minuscule percentage of their money is used charitably. They brag about junior programs when more money goes to turf research and to people doing internships. Their junior program donations are less than one percent of their total worth. I have no future plans to ever donate to them again. It’s hard to fathom that this financial machine is a charity in my humble opinion.
I have been a member of the USGA since 1999. I purchased 4 tickets to the US Open at Torrey Pines for this June. My brother and his wife have purchased plane tickets to come here so we can attend. Then I find out you reneged and took back my tickets. So today you made me wait in a countdown line to get just 2 tickets and when I went on immediately, I was told there are no tickets available. This is a breach of contract and should not stand.
The USGA has audited financial statements. They are in the Annual Report which is on the USGA's website. They are also posted by the USGA in Guidestar. BDO is the auditor.
The Federal Form 990 provides information regarding salaries and benefits for management. This information may be of interest to those who are interested in financial matters of the USGA.
I have been a USGA member since 2005 and, as a life long golfer, I appreciate the work and role of the USGA. When I checked out the USGA rating on Charity Navigator, however, I was surprised it has a rating below 50. I am especially surprised that the USGA does not have audited financial statements. Considering the size and scope of the organization, I strongly recommend this deficiency be corrected and that your financials be made available for review by the public.
