Mission: Tumbador is a Belgian nonprofit organization that was founded in 2003 to provide physical therapy and education of persons with disabilities in Latin America. We do so by sending voluntary physiotherapists over there to offer physiotherapy but also to train local medical personnel and to oversee the efficient use of the collected funds.
Results: Tumbador currently operates three projects: San Rafael (Guatemala), Ayacucho and San Miguel (Peru). Together they account for about 150 patients, especially children. Except physiotherapy our projects also offer education, occupational therapy, social and psychological support. We not only offer try to relieve the physical challenges but also give these children the opportunity to study, get to know people, do sports and participate in excursions. Our volunteers also pay close attention to the guidance of the families and they work very hard to create local awareness about the challenges of disabilities. In short, we want to give persons with disabilities the opportunity to work on their social integration.
