Mission: Community outreach promoting historic preservation of the historical, architectural, and infrastructure resources of thousand island park (tip), ny for our community, visitors, and future generations. The purposes of this organization are: to promote, encourage, and support preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, new building, infrastructure, and historical research of cottages and other buildings at thousand island park (tip), new york; to ensure that supported activity is consistent with the existing historical environment and architecture at tip; to gather and disseminate information regarding the history and architecture of the cottages, including new building, infrastructure and other property at tip; to raise and grant funds, and to operate a shop to support and promote the purposes of the thousand island park preservation company, inc.
Programs: Completed amendment of our certificate of incorporation and bylaws to clarify and enhance our ability to raise funds and make grants supporting historic preservation, rehabilitation and other efforts with an historic emphasis in the overall thousand islands park area.
continued outreach promoting historic preservation including: articles in our newsletter; lectures by members of our board and others; "preservation bytes" brief email notes distributed to all on the thousand island park corporation's email list; golf cart rides for visitors; reminders in the tabernacle's weekly "tab" sheet distributed to all cottages throughout the summer and through our website. Estimate outreach 750-1000 people. Completion of biannual cottage & garden tour with over 300 participants from the us and canada. Developed preliminary plan for multi-year project to update ti park data on the national register of historic places. The park's data had not been reviewed since 1982. This will involve resurveying all of the 400 buildings on ti park. In addition, applications for additional historic certification will be submitted for four public buildings.
completed refurbishment of the research library area of our office/shop to enhance our outreach capabilities. This will provide cottage owners and visitors a place to research the history of cottages and structures within thousand island park. The trude fitelson research center is expected to benefit 45 - 60 persons per season.
