Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Education, Preschools, Primary & Elementary Schools

Mission: The Montessori Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of Montessori education around the world. Our second focus is on what Dr. Riane Eisler has termed "Partnership Education." We work to encourage and assist schools in classroom filled with joyful learning rather than adult assessed standards and expectations; school organizations that are based on collaborative partnership, communication and trust between parents, students, educators, and school leadership; education of the heart, as well as the mind, teaching universal values, nonviolence, global understanding, and a tradition of service to humanity at every age level. The Foundation was established in 1992 to create an independent source of assistance, encouragement, and support for the international Montessori community. We work with the entire community of Montessori schools, as well as with parents, educators, schools, and schools systems who are interested in learning more about the insights, research, and approach pioneered by Dr. Maria Montessori. The mission of the Montessori movement is ? to develop the human potential; ? to inspire academic excellence; ? to nurture curiosity, creativity, and imagination; ? and to awaken the human spirit. The mission of the Montessori Foundation is ... To nurture, inspire, and support the development of strong, successful Montessori schools around the world, and to promote Dr. Montessori's vision of a world-wide community of children and adults, working together to build a world in which kindness, compassion, peace, and the dignity of the human spirit can finally blossom. The Montessori Foundation reflects a heritage of international education and a commitment to the highest standards of program and curriculum development, the implementation of cutting edge educational technology, the development of a strong sense of child and family-friendly schools.

The IMC has provided so much support and encouragement for our Non Profit school and I cannot speak highly enough of the people who established and manage it. They all do the most effective and wonderful work, very selflessly sharing their knowledge and expertise to even the most naïve startups. Our school has grown from nothing to now a significant size and becoming very sustainable. I will always be very grateful for the ongoing work undertaken by the IMC, they really do make a difference.
