The Mike Zimmer Foundation

Programs: Free youth football camp:free youth football camp for 350 boys and girls grades 1-8. The campers learn fundamentals of football & teamwork alongside some of the vikings coaches and players. The camp includes a healthy lifestyle lecture, a 3-hour football skills camp with instruction from vikings coaches and players, an autographed picture with mike zimmer, camp t-shirt, awards handed out to campers of the day, sponsor's branded water bottles and lunch.

community outreach:a) shopping with a pro event: mike zimmer foundation hosted 26 children with terminal illnesses from children's mn hospital at dick's sporting goods. Each child was given $200. 00 to shop in the store along with vikings players and coach's and a gift bag with vikings mini helmets and other items along with an autograph and picture opportunity with the players. The children were also served dinner and had transportation provided for themselves and parents to and from the hospital. Total cost: 6,800. 00b) thanksgiving meals: in partnership with the salvation army, the mike zimmer foundation donated $4,000. 00 worth of thanksgiving meals to provide a warm holiday dinner to over 800 people in the minneapolis area. C) back to school backpacks: the mike zimmer foundation teamed up with the salvation army to purchase and fill over 80 backpacks for underprivileged children in their summer programs before they headed back to school. The backpacks included school supplies for elementary and high school students. Coach zimmer personally handed them out to each student. Total cost: $2,651. 00d) hurricane relief: in effort to help families affected by hurricanes in 2016, the mike zimmer foundation donated $2,000 and over $600 in supplies and items needed for the shelters. Total cost: $2,644. E) children's minnesota hospital: in honor of vikki zimmer's birthday, the mike zimmer foundation donated $1,000. 00 to children's mn cancer hospital to go towards their needs.

scholarships: the mike zimmer foundation awarded two $10,000. 00 scholarships to standout senior high school athletes. The students submit an application, resume, and essay explaining how the money will help them towards their goals and how athletics has impacted their lives. Each student must be a senior graduating from a minnesota high school in 2018, must have participated in a varsity sport in high school, be in academic standing with a 2. 75 or higher gpa, must plan to attend an accredited college, university, or community college and must have participated in an extracurricular activity or volunteered in the community to be qualified.
