Working with underserved children in the Coastal Bend of Texas has been an experience that often gives me goosebumps. One former participant recently completed college and is now a member of the San Antonio police force. He recently wrote to thank us for what our program provided him with. We offer tennis, education and healthy living. After participants graduate from high school, we provide scholarships each semester. While the national graduation rate for low income students who begin college and complete it with a degree is around 14-18%, our program has a 66% college graduation rate. We recently have expanded our program to include the Boys and Girls Club plus will soon be including youngsters from another non-profit that serves the same at-risk children. As our program is building bridges with other non-profits with similar mission statements, our children are learning to build bridges to help them become contributing members to society.

“Serve it Up- Tennis, Education and Healthy Living!”

The mission of Tennis Success is to enrich the lives of at-risk youth and to equip them to serve the community by providing tennis, education and healthy living programs.

HISTORY

Tennis Success began in January of 2000 with the support of Father Filice and Joseph Kalenic. The idea was to promote and build a tennis program where players would come from the inner city, the west-side neighborhoods and “el barrio”. It would be free of charge and any kid that wanted to learn to play tennis could come.

A flyer was published explaining the program and with financial contributions and help from the local tennis community, Tennis Success was born.

Tennis Success is now a thriving 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a solid board of directors and a generous private and public foundation donor base.

Tennis Success is a recognized NJTL (National Junior Tennis & Learning) Chapter under the umbrella of the Corpus Christi Tennis Association, The USTA Texas Section and the United States Tennis Association Foundation.
