Mission: To heal the wounds of torture and gender-based violence suffered by individuals, their families and their communities, and to end torture. Our overall goals are: 1) To provide integrated psychological counseling, health services, legal consultation, and forensic medical and psychological asylum assistance to survivors of torture, war trauma, and gender-based violence. 2) To conduct technical assistance and professional workshops for psychologists and public interest attorneys regarding survivors of torture and gender-based persecution in order to improve the quality of services and legal representation for individuals fleeing persecution and violence. 3) To educate public leaders, civic groups, faith-based organizations, and community organizations about torture and efforts to end it. Our clients come from 100 countries worldwide seeking refuge from their torturers. Since our inception, we've served 2,300 survivors of torture and gender-based violence and other forms of persecution.
Geographic areas served: San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California
Programs: Survivors International's clinical services include individual psychotherapy for adults and children, crisis intervention, support groups, psychiatric medications management and counseling, and medical consultation and referrals. We perform forensic psychological and medical evaluations for political asylum applicants, and coordinate legal referrals. Survivors International provides clients with links to local agencies that provide assistance for food, shelter and employment.
