I WOULD 1000% NOT RECOMMEND ADOPTING FROM THE STARKE COUNTY HUMAN SOCIETY!! I should have known as soon as I walked into the shelter that this was not going to be a good experience. I was taken back to where the animals are, and they had a huge trash can filled with urine and feces covered newspapers and towels, right there out in the open. I was falsely informed when I adopted my cat that she had been spayed (the tattoo was on her ear when it should have been on the inside of her leg), completely vaccinated, AND tested negative for kitty leukemia. I took her home, and had to take her to the vet the very next day because she was coughing and sneezing and very wheezy. She had a bad “kitty cold” and was put on antibiotics, given an antibiotic shot, and put on eye drops. I was also informed while at the vet that they contacted the shelter and they in fact DID NOT follow out her vaccinations, and they DID NOT test for kitty leukemia. So I had to pay the vet for all of those things to be done, plus blood work considering God knows what else she might have gotten from there. I called the shelter to discuss this, and they told me that they never said they tested her. They did not take responsibility for their actions AT ALL and gave me the run around, not returning my calls, etc. If you want to adopt an animal, do not adopt from the Starke County Humane Society. In my opinion, they are unprofessional, careless, and irresponsible.
