Causes: Sports
Mission: To improve the quality of life of individuals with disabilities by providing funding, equipment, programming and education to enable full participation in sport and recreation activities.
Programs: Second year of our disabilities sports leagues with the metro parks disabilities program. We did flag football, soccer, basketball and volleyball during the fall and winter months. This provides various sports leagues for adults with disabilities here in middle tennessee outside of just special olympics to increase their physical activity and opportunities to build strong friendships and relationships through sports. Participation increased from 70-80 individuals to roughly 150 individuals with disabilities being served. Accessibility was also increased from 3-4 weeks per sport to 4-6 weeks per sport.
continued partnership with vanderbilt university medical center's dietetics internship program. We were able to increase nutrition classes from 4 per year with one of our program partnerships to 6 per year with them. We also piloted 3 nutrition classes per year with an additional program partnership. Total accessibility increased from 4 classes per year to 9 classes per year.
equipment endowment donated 2 large treadmills and multiple pieces of fitness equipment to partnering agencies and instructors across the state. Increased accessibility to roughly 100 individuals with disablities.
