Volunteering Oportunities

Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Human Service Organizations, Human Services

Mission: MISSION Soldier’s Best Friend provides U.S. military veterans living with combat-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) with Service or Therapeutic Companion Dogs, most of which are rescued from local shelters. The veteran and dog train together to build a trusting relationship that touches two lives at once and inspires countless others. GOAL We are devoted to helping our veterans living with combat-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). A second part of our goal is to make a positive impact on the pet overpopulation problem. We are dedicated to pairing and training service dogs with veterans at no cost to the veteran.

Soldiers Best Friend (SBF) provided me with the tools needed to train my service animal. They covered all the costs and we're involved as much as needed to ensure my success. I am extremely grateful for their help.

To be honest, it’s like anything else in life, “You get what you put into it.” Sure you have your days but someone like me has never had a dog before or experience with an animal. I’m constantly learning as I go. It’s a new experience. Soldiers best friend can give you the tools and advice but it’s up to you if you want to train your dog or not to reap the benefits. When I speak to others who have service dogs from this place, i see others have a goal and they have benefited with working with SBF. I see that everyone working there is doing their best to work with you and make the time even in the off hours to assist and guide you which shows they care. I try to not expect a lot from them because I know I’m not the only one going through this. Almost 5 months in and Gambit and I are taking our first Pat test as well as being signed up for the agility course. Either way, it’s a good experience and I would recommend going through SBF.

There are not enough words to express the gratitude for what Soldiers Best Friend has done for me. They provided a dog that has truly saved my life and gave me the skills I needed to have a sense of normalcy back. The staff are incredible and really take into account the struggles Veterans who have PTSD and or TBI.

My nephew, a veteran of the Iraqi War, was granted a dog to assist with his PTSD. His dog has been a life saver. I can't thank this organization, and others like it, for the work they do to help our veterans as they return to life post war. I don't know how J. would survive without his wonderful companion, who has done more for him than medication and counseling. Miracles happen here.
