Nonprofit Overview
Mission: SMART Choices St. Louis has a mission to improve the lives of children and youth in danger through our after-school program, domestic disaster relief and street outreach. For starters, after-school is the tipping point for many youth because their lives can become toxic due to their environment. Our goal is to create an enriching atmosphere in which they will thrive, become active and healthy in both mind and body. Secondly, when disasters strike – families with children are the most vulnerable, therefore we are onsite to bring a sense of normalcy by providing essentials like water, food and clothing. Lastly, we aim to reduce human trafficking by providing homeless teens with emergency care packages, a ride to a safe bed and case management to permanently get them off the street.
Target demographics: children, youth, families and disaster survivors.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 33 at-risk kids and their families. Plus 20 homeless teens who we transitioned off the street.
Geographic areas served: St. Louis, MO & the U.S.
Programs: After-School Program for At-Risk Children & Youth; Includes a health & wellness program, food pantry, mortgage/rent assistance, utility assistance and personal care items. Domestic Disaster Relief: We provide a variety of fresh produce, canned and dried food, water, juice, paper products and other essentials to survivors. Homeless Teen Street Outreach: Our team locates teens living on the streets and provide them with care packages that include food, hygiene products, clean clothing and resource information. Our case management transitions their life off the streets.
