Mission: The shenandoah area agency on aging (saaa) provides and coordinates programs and services which promote the independence, dignity, health and well being of seniors. Saaa serves the counties of clarke, frederick, page, shenandoah, warren and the city of winchester. Under the older americans act, saaa provides service to the community for persons age 60 and older with and emphasis on low income, frail and minority older persons.
Programs: Provide services to senior citizens including meals on wheels, welltran, and active living centers (alc). Meals on wheels prepared and delivered a total of 48,177 meals (a decrease of 627 meals or 1. 1%) to older homebound adults residing in clarke, frederick, page, shenandoah and warren counties and the city of winchester comprising a service area of 1,652 square miles. Welltran provided non-emergency transportation to qualified older adults with an emphasis on access to primary care, medical treatment and grocery shopping; there were 11,796 trips in 2017 or an increase of 9. 3% over the previous year. Active living centers assisted 410 older residents through congregate meals (25,539), activities and educational opportunities which centered on legal issues, scams, insurance education, medical topics etc.
