Causes: Labor Unions
Mission: To promote the health and professional interests of its members, to form a closer professional bond among them, and to encourage the growth of public education.
Programs: The association represents its members, including roughly 323 full-time teachers, by collecting bi-weekly dues from november through june, mainly through payroll deductions. Membership also includes half-time teachers (23) and instructional aides (95). Annual dues amounts for full-time teachers are 769, part-time 400 and aides 287. Membership dues in turn are paid out to the massachusetts teachers association (the mta). The mta assists the association in protecting its members' rights, through collective bargaining and arbitrations negotiations, which the association alone could not financially accomplish. Members partake of annual conferences and meet regularly to discuss professional matters.
