Causes: Community Service Clubs
Mission: The San Francisco Conservation Corps offers young people opportunities to develop themselves, their academic abilities and marketable job skills while addressing community needs through service work. Corpsmembers are 18-26 year-olds who join our job training and education program and work in teams on landscaping, recycling, playground renovation and community education projects that enhance the environment of San Francisco. The Corps is a non-profit organization celebrating 25 years of service to San Francisco.
Programs: Field service projectsthe field projects department provides job readiness training and technical skills training to young adults aged 18 and over. Field-based learning is provided approximately 28 hours per week to an average of 30 corpsmembers who learn basic restoration, landscape and carpentry skills while completing work projects for local and federal government funding agencies. Projects include playground installations at schools and parks in low-income neighborhoods and park preservation and natural habitat restoration in local and national park locations. All corpsmember participants in the field projects program are required to participate in the corpsmember education program.
recycling projectsthe recycling projects program provides job readiness training and technical skills training to young adults aged 18 and over. Training is provided approximately 28 hours per week to an average of 30 corps members who learn basic recycling skills while providing recycling services to customers in the presidio and other locations in san francisco. Additionally, the recycling projects program provides recycling education, outreach and auditing services to local schools, businesses and community groups. All corps member participants in the recycling projects program are required to participate in the corpsmember education program.
ramp sf academyramp sf academy is a 6. 5 - week preparatory program for 18-24 year olds. The program consists of assessments, teambuilding, physical training, life skills, career exploration and implementation of community service projects. Upon successful completion of the 6. 5 - week program, participants have an opportunity, pending slots available, to enroll into sfcc, goodwill industries, 2nd stage training programs or unsubsidized employment. During last fiscal year, sfcc enrolled 80 of ramp participants who largely are in need of a high school diploma and other additional job readiness skills.
