Mission: It is the mission of the sailing yacht research foundation (syrf) to research, develop, enhance and educate the public regarding measurement rating and handicap rules for the use in national and international offshore racing competition between sailboats.
Programs: The performance prediction project is a research study that aims to provide guidelines for which aerodynamic and hydrodynamic sailing data can be generated reliably by a panel code, and which data necessitates the use of the more resource intensive rans code.
the sailing software development project will develop a joint boat performance and measurement database in conjunction with a phone-based race tracker and analyzer application that will provide updated information to be stored in the database. All data in the database will be available for public use by researchers, designers and sailors.
the downwind aero moments & forces project's goal is to collaborate with the worlds leading sailmakers to leverage their advanced fluid structure interaction tools to produce a publicly available set of results to improve the accuracy of existing vpp tools.
