Causes: Crime & Law, Sexual Abuse Prevention
Mission: To provide advocacy, therapy, forensic nursing services and education to all persons regardless of age, gender, religion, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or length of time since the occurrence of sexual assault.
Programs: Advocacy - supports victims through initial interview and medical evidentiary exam and through investigation and prosecution proceedings if the victim decides to press criminal charges. Support is provided through the entire recovery process to all clients regardless of whether or not the victim decides to press criminal charges.
education: school-based education program - teach safety skills to childeren in grades k-12. The cirriculum meets the tennessee state standards for classroom instruction and has been approved by the knox county school system. Public awareness program - provide presentations to community organizations and at community events and fairs. Professional training - conduct professional development training to law enforcement, child care and corporate settings.
therapy services: adult therapy - provide therapy or counseling to adult crime victims or adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Play therapy - provide therapy through a specialized form of therapy that allows children to express their feelings and communicate through non-verbal expression. Group therapy - provide group therapy or counseling sessions to a variety of populations and on a variety of topics.
forensic nursing services - provide a sexual assault nurse examiner and advocate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Provides specialized services to gather evidence after a sexual assault crime is committed. All services provided to victims are free of charge - revenues are received through contracts with area hospitals and reimbursements from the state of tn criminal justice compensation fund for sexual assault.
